The Bammy Fries were delicious! Soft and lightly crisped and served with a mayo sauce. The chicken patty was not oily and had a nice spicy flavor. I loved my meal which was curry chickpeas with veggies, rice, and sweet plantains. My sister didn’t love her chicken but liked the crispy skin. My boyfriend enjoyed the mango chicken wrap! The decor is pretty and makes a cool environment to eat at!

Experience was not the greatest. We were sat down and no one came to us for over half an hour. A waitress had to be stopped in order for us to get service and we didn’t even get asked for drinks to start when we got someone. After getting the food, there was another period of no service. No attention to our table. I definitely understand if there were issues with staffing, but it was kind of ridiculous.

Very expensive for what you get. I had the fried chicken with rice and peas dinner $18. The quarter chicken was really small and dry and had no flavor (BJs or Sam’s $5 whole chicken is much cheaper and juicier!). The rice and peas was plentiful but also dry. My wife had the Russell Penne with no meat for $19. Not worth the money according to her. The Jerk Calamari $12, Jerk Shrimp Skewers $14 (both small servings), Regular Fries (hot) $7, and Mac N Cheese $7 (hot and plentiful) as appetizers were tasty with the Mac being everyone’s favorite. Service was very slow and the waitress forgot our second drink order (common complaint here). Music was so loud that the waitress had a hard time hearing our order and we shouted across the table during our conversation. Three appetizers, six entrees, two IPAs $14, three cocktails $36 one glass wine $8 cost $298. with 18% gratuity added in. Also, don’t go Saturday night (6pm) with a party of eight if you don’t want to wait in the tiny foyer for 30+ minutes especially if it’s cold outside. Would we go back again? Definitely not.

Had a great time there for dinner last night. Loved the drinks!!!! We had the love at first sight drink and the sorrel Martini. I have no pics of the food because I ate it a forgot to take pics. But it was really good. We had the curry goat, jerk chicken pasta, Ackerman salt fish plantains for appetizer. Had excellent service from Kayla. Great Caribean restaurant with vegan options.

Im not going to hold you up, the food is good but the service is absolutely TRASH! Im not sure where to start to be honest. Maybe the lack of urgency from the waitstaff or the fact that it took 20 mins for our waitress to come back from the kitchen to take our order. Also, I can’t forget waiting 20 mins for a drink because the bartender was talking on her AirPods the entire time. When we asked the waitress about the drink, she’s walking out of the restaurant and says to us “naw im off the clock, someone else can help you”.

I’ve visit The Russell on several occasions (both Hartford & West Hartford locations). Generally the service received is great! I really appreciate the Jamaican vibes and atmosphere they try to recreate. The food quality is great and the wait staff is always friendly. My only complaint, and the reason I did not give 5 stars, is the small portion size provided for the price paid. The portions have been getting smaller and smaller (both dine-in and take out) while the price remains the same. Prices are already on the expensive side and now you’re not getting a respectable amount of food in comparison to the price paid (imo). Other than that I truly love this place but just hope they get better with the portions. I wish they would create sizes (small, medium, large) and charge me accordingly. But please don’t charge me the same price for less food (particularly with takeout).

This place is amazing and just doesn’t miss. The staff is very friendly. Service is amazing. The drinks are strong and the food taste just like the island. The atmosphere is very elegant and provide the culture. Deff a must visit if you are in the area.

My husband and I, ahead of the weekend’s snowstorm, decided to attend Happy Hour at The Russell’s new West Hartford location. They’d only opened a few days earlier and we were excited to visit.

The new location is nicely redone. The food is pretty good, although I found the rice in both dishes to be a little dry and flavorless. The meat patties served as an appetizer were definitely worth it! I wish there had been a little more variety to the music than Bob Marley on repeat. We heard the same song more than once while we were there.

The overall quality of the food was a let down. I love spicy food, but the jerk was unbelievably spicy. The fried chicken was dry and pretty much all bones and no meat. I will not be dining here at this location again
