Social Profile:

THE RESTAURANT, housed in one of San Miguel’s most elegantly colonial settings at Sollano 16, opened in February 2008 featuring Chef Donnie Masterton’s world class cuisine. It is located just steps away from the main square of San Miguel de Allende, the prettiest and most restored/written-about Colonial city in all of Mexico. Offering a full bar, it serves lunch and dinner five days a week in a sun-dappled eighteenth century Moroccan courtyard, as well as in their elegant dining salon.

Chic fusion cooking in an 18th-century mansion courtyard & dining room, with regular burger nights.

Our group of five had an excellent experience at The Restaurant. Every dish was fresh, handmade, and full of flavor. The appetizers, from the soups to the salads, were the highlight of the night and my dinner party could not stop talking about them. Our entrées and drinks were just as impressive and everyone left completely satisfied.

We were celebrating a birthday and the staff added a special decoration to the dessert that made the birthday girl feel truly appreciated. The Restaurant stands out as one of the best dining spots in the center of San Miguel de Allende for its food, service, and warm atmosphere. Highly recommend.

We were there for the 18th Anniversary last night. Fabulous food, atmosphere and service. Highly recommend! We were able to meet Donnie Masterson and other highly regarded chefs in the city. They featured a 7 course meal with wine abd tequila pairings. Our group had so much fun. Definitely will come back again

We hosted our San Miguel Properties Christmas cocktail party at The Restaurant this week, and honestly, I couldn’t have imagined it anywhere else. The space is gorgeous, the food is consistently outstanding, and the service is—without exaggeration—some of the very best in San Miguel de Allende.

As a local real estate broker, part of my job is introducing clients and our team to the places that really capture the charm of San Miguel de Allende. In a town where so many restaurants struggle to find and keep good staff, Donnie has built something rare. Many of his team members have been with him since the early days, nearly two decades ago. That kind of loyalty doesn’t happen by accident; it’s a reflection of the culture he’s created. They don’t just work together—they feel like a family. And as a guest, you feel that too.

For me, walking into The Restaurant is this perfect mix of a special night out and the comfort of coming home. It has that Cheers energy: people greet you by name, you feel taken care of, and you somehow know you’re going to leave with a great story from the night. Hosting my team of agents there felt especially meaningful—I got to share with them a place that has been a constant in my life for years and is always on my mental list of “musts” when anyone ask where to go in San Miguel de Allende.

After nearly twenty years, The Restaurant has never once disappointed me. I look forward to many more evenings, celebrations, and spontaneous “let’s just pop in for a drink” moments here.

Hats off to the chef, the host, and the friend behind it all for keeping the spirit of the old San Miguel very much alive. In a San Miguel that’s grown and changed so much that you don’t always run into familiar faces anymore, Donnie’s place still feels like the town I fell in love with—warm, welcoming, and full of people I’m happy to see.

Unfortunately after my dinner yesterday I know that full name of this place is “The restaurant that I would not recommend to anyone”. Really bad service – waiters are not paying any attention and host was so so so rude and arrogant I knew from the beginning it’s not going to be a pleasant experience. First we got a table basically standing in the door to the bar and before we placed our order someone tripped over us, then waited walked away before we finished placing our order. Nobody bothered to came and ask if we need anything but they asked twice if we want to add the tip to card payment. Here is the tip – treat people as your guests not as customers, but I guess they have enough reservations not to care if someone would come back.
The food was fine, not great just ok. I liked the shaved Brussels sprouts salad, octopus was tough and balancing between being charred and burnt. My ribs were soft but the carrots a little bit too al dente.
I see no reason to come here, not for the food and most definitely not for atmosphere.

Pretty loud atmosphere, with 2 types of conflicting music at moderate volume. Hostess a shamed me a bit for not having a reservation but seated us anyway, which was not welcoming. Food was pretty great though. The ribeye was very good, but Ive had better for this price. Would recommend this place however.

2 apps, 1 entree ribeye, and 2 glasses of wine, $120 USD

If I could give 10 stars, I would.
The atmosphere is incredible with its retro throwback vibe and decor, paying homage to the 80s and 90s era of music with its vinal record clad walls and art-deco boom boxes.

The DJ at this time was playing a jazz fashion mashup, which was perfect for this setting.

Oh, you want to hear about the food? Well, all I can say is that the cuisine is top notch and surpasses all expectations. This dimly light dining experience was definitely a gift from the culinary gods.

Read no further than this review. You will not be disappointed one bit. The flavor and fare are second to none.

Indulge until your hearts content.

Atmosphere is excellent-very cool open-air ceiling hangings make for a spectacular first impression. Living wall plus many other plants, beautiful, soothing water feature in center of courtyard. Once ceiling is covered, the lighting is poor. Impossible to read the menu or see the food you’re eating.
I ordered the roasted beet salad which was spectacular. Both beautiful presentation and delicious. The grilled pork chop looked massive & was also beautifully presented but turned out to be 40-50% fat. Trying to cut & eat a pork chop in the dark made for a very unpleasant experience.
Service began very well but ended poorly.
With so many wonderful restaurants to choose from, I’m not sure I would bother to return. If I I were to return, I would consider lunch or a very early dinner & choose a different entree.

I encourage to make reservations for a party larger than 2.
Upon entry there are 2 stores carring some unique items and candles.
As you walk into the restaurant its decorated to appear like your in a village cobble flooring, wall of plants, a water fountain and string lights. The restaurant seems a bit small bit explore it. The bar is separate from the dinning room with an DJ and cool decor. DJ plays great music.
Food was absolutely amazing, great taste and full of flavor.
Prices are reasonable and service was on point.

Great place. Burger night we tried, we’re from California and saw in and out burger and had to try it, burger was good but nothing like in and out. Salads were super good and desserts were great, pretty cool atmosphere. Prices were good.
