We started with the shallot hummus (no picture but legit the best hummus I’ve had in my life – GET THIS). We also had the beef dumplings and they were amazing as well (pic included).
For dinner we shared the latkes which were so much better than we expected (they were bite size but packed with flavor). We also got the skewers (one lamb and one salmon) which were good but probably the most underwhelming part of the meal.
Highly recommend this place – based on the food itself and the extremely professional and attentive service, it’s well worth the money.
Everything we ordered from the starters to the mains were excellent – the Muhammara, Hummus, Falafel, and the succulent and lamb kebabs – all hit the spot. The mango lassi is unique and rich (different from the super sweet indian mango lassi) – i liked it. There were plenty of vegetarian options for some of the folks in our party
We were in the mood for Mediterranean, and wanted to try something different! In the Proper Hotel is a lovely restaurant called The Peacock.
Let me start by saying – this isn’t a cheap meal, even for lunch! We chose to sit outside since it was a lovely day – and they gave us a table by the creek – with a lovely view! It was also shady where we sat, with a nice breeze – great ambiance!
We decided to stick with appetizers. We ordered the grilled octopus, which was good, but we have had better elsewhere.
We also got the fried shallot hummus with homemade pita bread – we felt there was a bit too much going on with the hummus flavor wise and texture wise. The Pita was good, not great.
We ordered the latkes – very cute presentation, and they were tasty – just would have liked a bit more crunch to them!
Finally, we got the fried Saganaki cheese – made with Graviera cheese. Because of my alcohol allergy – we didn’t get it flaming! However, it was SO good! It came with some za’atar bread – which was good, but very oily – I switched to cutting with fork and knife vs fingers! .
I almost forgot to mention – our waiter was awesome! Checked on my food restrictions, and was so attentive!
Overall, it was a nice meal with lovely ambiance but have had better and cheaper mediterranean food elsewhere.
So I’ve written this about another restaurant, but I find the 4% wellness fee annoying. I want everyone to have wellness. I want them to have health insurance, dental, vision, time off etc., but what is a “wellness fee” for and why isn’t the wellness of your employees built into the prices noted in your menu? Are you trying to show you care about your employees or are you trying to slip in 4% without most customers noticing? If you’re trying to show you care about your employees, tell us what wellness they’re getting for 4%. Is it adequate or is it just for show? Perhaps you say it’s none of our business. Well, by putting it on the bill and presenting it after the meal has been consumed, you made it our business.
Would you like to add another fee for your rent? How about utilities? My point is you should be paying everyone their just wages and benefits and that cost should be in the price shown on your menu. It’s okay if those prices are 5% or even 10% higher. Be good to your employees. Don’t burden your customers with your logistics. We deal with logistics when we cook at home. We don’t want to know your logistics when we dine out.
The only downside to the evening was an interaction with one of the managers. While she was friendly, we felt somewhat rushed, as if our evening was being wrapped up for us before we were ready. Aside from that, the service from Gigi truly made the experience enjoyable.
