When we arrived there were 3 tables sat and one of them were leaving. There was also one family at the host stand ahead of us. The guy at the hosts station said it may be a while for service because there was only one waitress working. With only 4 table? OK well we sit and it is a while before the waitress comes over. She takes our order as well as the group that was sat just before us. As we are waiting for our drinks 2 more tables are sat. She comes over and takes their drink order. We are still waiting for our drinks and the 2 tables that were sat after us get their drinks. We wait a little longer and she finally brings our drinks as well as the table that was sat before us. It took so long to get our drinks that both our food as well as the table sat before us was ready and in the windows. Food was alright nothing really special. As we are finishing up our dinner we hear a commotion. I look over and the guy from the host stand is about to fight another customer. Instead of trying to d escalate help was yelling and bucking up to this guy. All this and not a single manager in sight. I don’t think there was even a manager working that night.

The original Mail’s diner it’s a franchise in California that you go and have great breakfast lunch and dinner. Your service is always good. Their food is always delicious. The atmosphere always loud 50s American diner style. My wife had the Santa Fe skillet with sausage they look great. They look delicious. I even stole some of it when she was in the restroom. And I had the hangover too, which was plenty of food, especially I’m a ham lover so whenever you see a male original diner, are you hungry? I suggest go there. They’re always great. Love life, love food and shut up and eat! #shutupandeat!

I love this place, great meals- always delicious and the service is amazing. One waitress in particular, Thatiana is always going above and beyond with service. Big meals for great value and a nice atmosphere. Great for any occasion! Food is always fresh with amazing flavor, definitely recommend, I come here regularly .

We stopped by Mel’s Diner in Fairfield for their car show and had such a great time! The parking lot was full of beautiful cars, everyone was friendly, and the diner staff were awesome. Food came out hot, the milkshakes were amazing (as always ), and the atmosphere was just classic diner fun. Definitely one of our favorite weeknight stops — can’t wait to come back

Great traditional American diner that serves hearty diner fare. This particular branch is a great one as they have their great customer service and high food quality down pat. I always tend to go for my usual diner classic of chicken fried steak, but you can’t go wrong with their other diner options such as chicken and waffles.

I always liked ordering from this place until today when I ordered a chicken sandwich with house Salad. When I open the house salad I was shocked by seeing a bug inside the lettuce. Looks like they don’t wash their vegetables and they don’t care about customers health. Very disappointed and would never eat from there again!

Food was good, service terrible. Manager and owner needs to do something. This branch is gonna fail.
Our waitress left shift w/o saying anything, didnt offer to fill our drinks, no syrup for pancakes, no sauce for steak. The sole waitress left didnt check on tables, waited 30 min for the check. 3 people waiting to be seated at the door left with 1 guy waited 10 min at the counter with no acknowledgement.
It was so bad people started legit walking out w/o paying because they were there longer than us waiting for their check (45min +)
For a while, there was no one to be seen. The cook rang his bell multiple times looking for the waitress.

I haven’t been to a Mel’s in a number of years. We have one in Vacaville but the food and service is just terrible. I was excited to see this new spot here in Fairfield.
First impressions… Got seated really fast and the place was mildly busy. Over heard one of the waitress say they are still waiting for the dinner rush. So maybe we got there just in time.
Victoria our waitress was decent. I ordered a diet Coke and she brought out a regular Coke. Not a big deal… This is actually a common mistake. She brought out a correct drink pretty quick. She was attentive and followed up making sure we where taken care of and refills we good.
From the time we ordered to it being served was not very long. Food was delivered hot and fresh. Didn’t taste like it was sitting under a heat lamp for a extended period of time.
I had ordered the meatloaf and the wife had the classic cheeseburger. Meatloaf came loaded with with mushrooms and plenty of brown gravy. Meatloaf was moist with no burnt or hard ends. I ordered a double order of mashed potatoes and they we good too. Vegetables were a bit hard… Probably could have steamed a bit longer but not terrible. Everything was well seasoned. The corn bread was good but a bit cold. That was probably my fault since it was the last piece of the meal I had eaten.
Wife thought her food was good. She didn’t care for the fries too much and she couldn’t explain really why. Said they tasted a bit off… I tried one and said it has a garlic season too it. So maybe?
The place was well lite and had a great old school vibe to it. Everything looked clean and brand new and that is probably because it is. Really thought the planes hanging from the ceiling was cool.
Only bad thing I can say really is the little juke boxes are cool and all but I don’t think they work right. I went to place a quarter into ours and it got stuck… I looked into it so I can either get my quarter back or push it in… It looked like there where several quarters stuck in there. Told the waitress and she said she could get the hostess to play it for us but I told her no thanks. I won’t be bothering trying to feed those machines again…
So overall I was pleased with this Mel’s and will be back. Glad I decided to give this new spot a chance.

The staff said they were understaffed and still performed better than most establishments. Love the vibes and the theme. Food is quite reasonable.
