The National was FABULOUS! It is an extremely well done restaurant that I will most certainly come back to next time I am in Telluride. The restaurant itself is small but has a very lively atmosphere. The service was great- we had a friendly server who gave great recommendations, which I think always makes the difference between a good and great restaurant. As far as food, we got the short rib, gnocchi, arugula salad, cacio e pepe, and the focaccia. Every item was fabulous EXCEPT the focaccia. I was super disappointed as it kind of seemed just like a loaf of sandwich bread… But the short ribs- amazing. The cacio e pepe was the best I have ever had… perfect amount of flavor. Both the gnocchi and the pasta itself in the cacio e pepe were great homemade pastas with perfect textures! Lastly- the arugula salad was absolutely amazinggg. It had the best nutty/zesty flavor and it is one I am going to try and make at home. So good! Make a reservation if possible, although we got lucky and walked in without one and were seated. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a well done flavorful meal!

Mushroom festival brought with it some Amazing meals in Telluride! My 2nd night in town I enjoyed this prix fixe menu at “The National.” This 4 course meal had this big guy stuffed! The wine selection here is expansive and the sommelier is very knowledgeable! She helped me select a bottle that would pair with all 4 courses and it did not disappoint throughout the entire meal. I’m almost certain this was my first time having panna cotta and I am not upset about it at all. It was rich and creamy and went well with the foccacia. The scallops were cooked to perfection and of course the mushrooms blended well with the scallops and risotto. My favorite dish of the meal was definitely the Short Rib. OH MY! This was incredible, had the meat sweats devouring this dish, it was rich and packed full of flavor that your grandmother could only dream of achieving with her Sunday dinner. The dessert was the sweet treat to finish off this amazingly filling meal. I was sitting at the bar top and enjoyed the service from the bar staff. The atmosphere is more laid back than other fine dining restaurants with more upbeat music playing at a bit of a louder volume than others. But its fun and energetic not overpowering. The meal I had was a special for Mushroom festival but if its any indication to the abilities of this cooking staff, I would gladly visit again to try something different.

A phenomenal experience. We come to telluride every fall and this is one of our favorite restaurants to dine at. Everytime the food and service is amazing. Our server tonight was Michael and he was exceptional. One of the best servers we’ve ever had. He was very educated on the menu and had great suggestions. We tried the new salmon on the menu tonight and were very pleased. We are here for 2 weeks and just might have to come again next week! Thank you Michael and thank you to the chef! Delicious!

Our party of four had a reservation and were graciously greeted by Jenny, who led us to our booth-and-barstool combo table just across from the bar. The night kicked off with flair as Michael arrived with charisma, a couple of great stories, and took our drink order with ease. Shortly after, our server Cat stepped in—sharp, attentive, and thoroughly knowledgeable. Like Michael, she was a key part of what made the experience memorable.

If you’re heading to Telluride and only make one reservation, make it here. We have eaten here on all our Trips to Telluride over the last few years, and honestly, it never gets old. The service is the kind you find yourself talking about on the Gondola ride home. Warm, genuine, attentive in a way that feels personal rather than just… trained. These people actually care, and you feel it.
The food though. The Warm Focaccia with sweet ricotta and black truffle honey is beyond delicious we’ve said out loud, multiple times, that it’s the best bread we’ve ever had. We mean it every time. And if the goat cheese cheesecake is on the menu the night you go, that’s your sign. Order it even if you’re full. Especially if you’re full. It’s light in the best possible way, full of flavor, and you will absolutely still be thinking about it the next morning.
Just go. You’ll understand. 🙂

However, this was probably the most disappointing $400 I’ve spent in a while, particularly for a 1.5 hour dining experience (and only one cocktail between the two of us). Perhaps this was a one-off experience for the “inter-national” Thai tasting menu, but my upper GI system had not been ravaged like this since my 2025 episode of norovirus. Neither of us could not finish the rice ball appetizer, noodles, or snapper fish due to the amount of chili/spice. The atmosphere was also quite loud for a rather “intimate” setting.
We gladly inhaled the dessert to calm the raging GERD. Sadly not even a mint to help on the way out the door, we walked back looking forward to ending our evening with a bottle of Tums and pepto bismol.

Wow! This place was perfection from start to finish. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and seated promptly. Chelsea our waitress was WONDERFUL. She gave us a run down of the menu and options to consider. I started with a mocktail (delicious) and my husband wine. We then had the Muhammarah as our appetizer followed by Pumpkin Gnocchi (me) and he had the Pork Chop. Everything we put into our mouths was so flavorful and delightful. Also, we never get two desserts but decided we must; I had the Lemon Madeleines and he the Chocolate Tart. The manager constantly walked the room checking on each table and was so fun/ kind. It may be the best all around experience we’ve ever had in our 38yrs of marriage. Nice job everyone. We will be back!!!!

We visited The National as our final big meal while in town in June 2025. I’m definitely a fan of Telluride having more fine dining options and places with the vibes of the National. Unfortunately, we came away not especially impressed. Service throughout was awkward and oddly timed – we were asked if we were ready to order essentially right when we were seated and service at no point seemed to be supporting the experience. The menu itself I thought was pretty standard for the type of New American restaurant The National was presenting itself as and the actual food we received was similarly pretty bland. The drink options were quite nice however and the atmosphere inside was top notch. I’m hopeful our experience was just growing pains for the National since I think it’s the type of option Telluride needs more of.

We were in town for our anniversary and came across this place while we were walking downtown during the day. We made one of the last reservations for that evening and ended up having an excellent experience! When we arrived for our resy, the atmosphere was energetic from all the people filling up the restaurant. We were promptly taken to our table and as soon as we sat down, we were greeted by our server with a glass of bubbles to celebrate our anniversary! This was such an incredible start to the evening and such a special touch the restaurant made on our evening. Our menus even said “Happy Anniversary” on them! After being walked through the menu, we order a few cocktails and the Warm Focassia to kick things off – they had a great cocktail and wine list! Dinner was tough because there were so many tasty things on the menu. My wife ordered the Bigoli Carbonara and I ordered their Vadouvan Spiced Pork Chop, which was insanely good and easily one of the best pork chops I’ve ever had! My wife also mentioned how great her pasta was! Post-dinner we order another round of drinks – my wife went with the Flatliner cocktail and I ordered another old fashioned. Our server was really talking up their Orange-Yogurt Cake dessert – cherry compote, balsamic caramel, mascarpone whip, and ricotta ice cream – and it did not disappoint! This was such a great recommendation and our server was amazing once again and brought us another round of anniversary bubbles since he swore it paired well with the dessert…which he was absolutely right – definitely order both other those together!! Overall, our experience here was incredible and they really did a perfect job making our special day even better!
