In 1859 thousands of gold seekers flocked to Colorado, taking part in one of the greatest gold rushes in North American history. In 1861 on this very site, a tented structure known as Long’s Saloon opened for business as a local watering hole to thirsty miners with the permanent building being erected in 1879.
Relaxed hangout offering hearty breakfasts, bar food & brews in a onetime 19th-century saloon.

Be sure to stop by! Well worth it.
From the moment we arrived, the service set a negative tone. The staff seemed overwhelmed and uninterested, and we waited an unreasonable amount of time just to be acknowledged. When we finally were seated, it took far too long for anyone to take our drink order, and that pattern continued throughout the meal. Requests were forgotten, refills were scarce, and communication was poor overall.
The food was another major disappointment. For the prices being charged, the quality simply did not match expectations. Dishes arrived lukewarm, poorly presented, and lacking flavor. What should have been classic comfort food felt rushed and carelessly prepared. It was especially frustrating given the tourist-level pricing — you expect at least consistency, if not quality.
The atmosphere didn’t help matters either. While the building itself has charm and history, the dining area felt cramped, chaotic, and uninviting. Tables were packed too closely together, noise levels were high, and it felt more stressful than enjoyable. Instead of feeling like a classic Breckenridge staple, the place came across as relying heavily on its name rather than the experience it delivers.
To make matters worse, there was no sense of urgency or accountability when issues were apparent. At no point did anyone check in to see how things were going or attempt to correct problems, which left the impression that poor experiences are simply accepted as normal here.
Breckenridge has so many excellent dining options with better food, better service, and a more welcoming atmosphere. Sadly, the Gold Pan did not live up to its reputation or its price point. I won’t be returning, and I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a quality dining experience in town.
The bar owner tried fighting my buddy and I because we asked for a beer that he didn’t like. Very aggressive and very not intimidating.
