Food was ok, service was fine, beers are decent. However the prices are shockingly high and the outside seating is cash-only. Also, a number of things (like the fishbowl vodka ‘specials’) have no price listed. $14 for a vodka drink that is watered down and half ice cubes? No wonder they don’t list the price! Stick with beer.

Although it has a nice outdoor bar with a great view, the liquor is definitely watered down, I been in the bar business a long time and you can’t fool me. The menu is WAY overpriced and you are not getting genuine German delicacies. Pretty much the average Pathmark package meats. The portions are small and you will not get a belly full. And never in my life have I seen a “bag” yes I said “bag” of potato chips given to me on my plate. Over all I would have to say Stay away, pass, do not go.

It’s hard to rate a restaurant that is so much a part of the fabric of its place that it’s hard to imagine it not being there. From the crazy little under-the-bridge turnaround on Cedar Bonnet you have to negotiate to get in or out, and the sloping boardwalk-like entrance ramp, you can tell just by arriving that the Dutchman’s is Old Seashore. The German fare is unique in the area for sure, perhaps incongrous in a bayfront setting. Its quality is usually just a bit better than OK, but you can eat well if you’re selective. But the food is not really the point. The place is atmospheric. The outside bar on a summer afternoon is unmatched. The inside bar is perfectly cozy, and would serve you well in a Nor’easter. I’ve got a lot of memories made in this joint; don’t be afraid to make some of yours here, too. Don’t question it too much; just go with it — there is nowhere quite like it.

July 2013- Slow Service, overpriced beers. Food was nothing special, nor were the portions. A $12 burger comes with a small bag of chips and a tablespoon ( seriously) of cole slaw.

Place is awful. Just finished our meal outside. I do not recommend eating outside. Food is cheaply made, plastic cups, beer cans, and you can’t even use a friggin credit card. Only option is to use a debit card cash withdrawal for 3 dollars. Never again. To top it all off, waitress spilled two large beers all over and it wet our bag and legs. Still charged us.

I was really looking forward to some weinerschnitzel and other German specialties. As I explained to Tim ( the manager?) last evening, the food was bland and awful. Tim’s response was bordering on apathetic and condescending; no remedy was offered. Perhaps if the menu were more focused and in accordance with the restaurant’s German orientation, the food would have been decent. It’s really a shame, this place has all the potential in the world!! The journey to get there, the reception and ambiance as we arrived and the jukebox made me really excited to have chosen this restaurant.

I ordered a crab cake dinner and it came with a small bag of potato chips on the plate, and a miniscule amount of coleslaw. Disgraceful! I have never seen a dinner served with a bag of potato chips. Crude! My husband ordered the Shepherd’s Pie which came in a crock bowl a little bigger than the size of a cupcake holder, and it had no more than 2 ounces of meat in it. The prices are too high for the paltry plates set forth. Years ago at the Dutchman’s, rolls and butter used to be set on the table, salads were served with choice of dressing, and choice of potatoes was given with every meal: baked, mashed or french fries. None of that is evident any longer. The menu is pathetic. I will never, ever again set foot in the Dutchman’s. And I will tell all and sundry not to patronize this place. It’s a big, big waste of money.

The inside bar has a good, casual atmosphere, much welcomed in the off season. The bar menu has some very tasty items, especially the Mushroom/Brie Soup.

French onion soup is fantastic. I usually have a half and half brew. I hear they will be renovating and not open for a while. The Quelle is cash only.
