When we came in, we were not greeted. I had to ask if we could sit down or wait to be seated. The friendliest (the other one was clearly leaving and very grumpy) of the two bartenders turned around and told us we could sit wherever we wanted. He did not come over with menus, or ask us about drinks. I had to get up and go to the bar to ask for menus.
The menus were a single sheet of paper, dirty paper at that. The menu was extremely limited. For my experience in food service, I realized very quickly that they did not offer any fried options. Very simple items, with very simple sides. We figured how bad could they screw up a sloppy Joe or a chicken wrap. But, they did.
The chicken was pre-cooked, you could tell right off the first bite, very firm and chewy. The wrap was full of way too much ranch, your basic iceberg lettuce from a bag, and a couple other specs of tomato and onion. The baked potato that I was served with my meal, that I had to pay two dollars extra for, tasted like sweet soapy water. I know that sounds strange, but that’s the only description I can come up with.
My wife had the tacos, about the only thing that wasn’t bad. My best friend ordered the sloppy Joe, and it was awful. The meat tasted like it had been sitting around for weeks, and the bun was soggy. All in all, we will not be returning to this place to eat again.
This place may have been good at one time, but it is definitely not what it once was before. I hope the owner sees this, and makes some changes. Especially seeing as all four of us made multiple trips to the bathroom, the rest of the evening.
Please be better and try harder.
The food is horrible now. Gyro meat is frozen/pre-cut slices. It isn’t shaved off the spit anymore. They don’t have fries anymore. The menu is VERY limited compared to what it used to be. I can make better gyros at home from a kit bought at Aldi.
The service was…existent. Bartender served us with as little effort and conversation as possible.
The atmosphere was….bad. One customer sitting at the bar during peak lunch hour, and every wall surface is covered by a TV or gambling machine. They even moved the kitchen to hold more slot machines.
This place used to be “the Dr. Gyros of the East”, now it’s just a dump that needs to close.
Go to Rock Island for decent food, service, and atmosphere.
