The appetizers set the tone: the caviar oysters and tuna sticky rice were among the best I’ve ever had—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. For my entrée, I ordered the strip steak, which was cooked to absolute perfection. Each bite was tender, flavorful, and exactly how a great steak should be.
Beyond the food, the experience was elevated by the exceptional service, the warm and welcoming atmosphere, and the breathtaking views that made the evening feel even more special.
Edson Hill Tavern delivers on every level—cuisine, ambiance, and hospitality. I cannot recommend it enough and will absolutely be returning.
The drive to the restaurant was so beautiful and scenic. Ruby the host greeted us with a smile and let us know we could enjoy a drink downstairs in the tavern before we got seated even though our table was ready.
The tavern was super cozy and warm and our drinks were perfectly made by the bartender.
Once seated, our server Anna was very friendly and helped my wife with a wine selection. We ordered the lobster fritters and Holy smokes…they were delicious.
Our entrees were the halibut and fried chicken and I cam tell you…the apple and fennel slaw was paired perfectly with the chicken and hot honey glaze. I tried the halibut and it just melted in your mouth.
The chef and his team truly outdid themselves with the summer menu. The view was exactly what we were expecting and even though the clouds rolled in with some light rain, it just added to the ambiance of the evening.
We chose the peaches and cream dessert not knowing what to expect but the chef delivered! Perfect summer dessert and blew us away.
I had such a memorable and wonderful experience with my wife that I got a gift card with Nick at the end to give to my parents as a thank you because I know they’ll love the food and atmosphere here.
I’d give this place ten stars if I could and we may have to make this a regular thing when we come to visit.
The reason for 3 stars was they sat a family w kids next to us, and they had their iPads on without headphones and volume turned up. Not very nice for a meal. We have kids and understand ppl use devices but should be with headphones. We brought up the issue w the server and he brushed us off saying it’s a family week. We didn’t want to cause a fuss so we didn’t press, but this shouldn’t happen IMO.
The cuisine was outstanding—perfectly prepared and presented. Our server Ally deserves special recognition for her excellent recommendations that enhanced our meal experience. As someone with food allergies, I was impressed by their meticulous attention to dietary restrictions, providing peace of mind while dining.
The entire experience from ambiance to service to the final bite was absolutely top-tier. Edson Hill has secured a permanent spot on my must-visit list whenever I’m in the Stowe area. A flawless dining experience worth seeking out!
My wife and I came here expecting a special dinner based on glowing reviews. What we got was a textbook tourist trap with a view. Yes, the setting is gorgeous. Vermont mountains in the distance, open-air ambiance, cozy lighting. But once the food hits the table, the charm dies fast.
I ordered the roasted chicken. What arrived was three thin slices of poultry on a puddle of sauce, garnished with a few microgreens. It looked more like a sample than a $44 entrée. My wife’s “Gnudi” was overpowered by a bitter green sauce, rubbery in texture, and she couldn’t finish it. I ended up eating both meals just to feel like I had dinner, but left still hungry. We ended up grabbing pizza afterward because we felt completely ripped off.
The bill? $80 before tip. For what amounts to two appetizers. No drinks, no dessert, no extras.
To add insult to injury: they charge you $25 per person if you cancel a reservation. That should have been our first red flag.
This restaurant survives off its view and inflated reputation. The food is nowhere near the quality or portion size you’d expect at this price point. The 4.6-star rating is wildly misleading and risks conning more travelers like us.
We left upset, unsatisfied, and shocked that this place gets away with calling itself fine dining. Save your money and your evening. Go somewhere that cares more about the plate than the patio.
However, we were most impressed with the exceptional service from both our server Anna and the Manager. Anna was especially attentive as evidenced when she noticed my steak was slightly overdone and proactively offered to have it re-made. The manager then also came by to apologize and offered a soup or salad while the entrée was being re-made. Contrary to previous reviews stating otherwise, we were thoroughly impressed by the service we received in addition to the food/views and will be back next time we are in Stowe.
We called to ask about sitting at the bar for dinner– they said the bar is 1st come 1st serve starting at 5pm. There are only 8 seats at the bar. The rest of the actual tables require reservations and they are booked two weeks out for dinner.
We sat at the bar tonight. The ambience is modern rustic. We loved all of the lit candles and the fireplace.
I ate the salmon and my friend ate the brisket. Both were the best meals we’ve had on this trip! Also, although not listed on their menus or website, they can modify menu items to be gluten free!
We also ordered dessert- I had the flour-less chocolate cake (also gluten free) and my friend had the pear pastry dessert.
What an experience!
Overall our 2 meals plus 2 drinks plus 2 dessert came to $132 before tip. Definitely worth the money
