This is as old school as it gets. A throwback to the old steakhouse’s with big red leather seating, dim lights, fantastic food and even better service. A place where personal attention is above and beyond.
Martini glasses that are iced and blue cheese olives freshly stuffed in house.
The garlic cheese toast is complementary and is delicious.
The latest time that we went, we sat at the bar where all the bartenders were friendly and chatty with us.
This is a rare experience that is the opposite of the sleek newer steakhouses which I also have nothing against. It’s a matter of what vibe you’re looking for.

The World Famous Derby is a must-visit if you love old-school steakhouses with classic charm and timeless hospitality. From the moment you walk in, the vibe feels nostalgic, polished, and welcoming–exactly what you want for a great night out.

We started at the bar for drinks, where Michael and Josh were friendly, engaging, and attentive. Michael made an excellent dirty martini–perfectly balanced and ice cold–setting the tone for the evening.

When our table was ready, the friendly host Shaden came to get us and escorted us into the dining room for what turned out to be a truly delicious dinner. Our waiter, Brandon, was spot on all night–knowledgeable, attentive, and always one step ahead of our needs without being intrusive.

The service here truly stands out. Cameron, the shift manager, even stopped by our table to check on our dining experience, which speaks volumes about the level of care and pride the team takes in delivering exceptional hospitality.

Wow. What an amazing local steakhouse. The atmosphere is classic old NY steakhouse. Very elegant even if crowded and expanded into every stretch of the building. Service was excellent and food outstanding. Bacon wrapped filet was one of their signature dishes and didn’t disappoint along with the potatoes Romanoff. Worth the visit if in the greater LA area.

Went for restaurant, the beef burger and rib are great quality, especially the rib, much tender and juice than I expected. Service is great, all stuff are nice and welcoming with rich experience, and whoever make the song list is soooo good because I simply love every song they played there, and the vibe is so comfortable with real fire, will go back again! Their food has big portion so don’t over order! As far as I can see most table has box to pack to go.

Came to The Derby in Arcadia excited to try the prime rib. Drove half an hour specifically for it after seeing some pictures and seeing that it was available for Dine LA.

Although we had a reservation, we waited for a table about 40 minutes because it was a busy night. Shortly after sitting down, the waiter came around to introduce himself and I ask him if there is any prime rib left; he assures me there is. When he comes back to take our order: he has checked with the kitchen – one is in the oven, but it may take a half hour to come out. Great!

We order. Salads and appetizers arrive, and he comes back again with an update: actually the prime rib will be ready in 10 minutes, so it should be perfect timing. Even better!

At this point, things start to go awry. Across the room has a very unhappy guest calls the manager over and they argue about something at length. A few minutes after that scene, our waiter comes back to our table and apologies: oh, we actually don’t have any prime rib left — it’s too rare and we can’t grill it without making it tough, sorry. The staff then bring about something that looks suspiciously like prime rib to the complaining table!

So… after telling me multiple times that yes, prime rib is available, yes, it’s coming, then yes, it’ll be perfect timing — now it’s suddenly “not available.” Honestly, it felt pretty obvious they gave the prime rib they’d promised to me to the complaining table . And if that’s what happened, fine — but really, why lie to me as a guest?

The waiter then asks if we’d like to cancel our orders, i.e., would we like to leave without having eaten anything but salad? By now, it’s 9:30pm, after we came in at 8:00pm; it’s late out and the only thing open now is fast food.

I stare at the menu and nothing sounds good because I was looking forward to prime rib for hours now. Reluctantly, I ask for the ribeye as a replacement. He comes back after talking to the manager and says there will be a $20 additional charge because it’s not on the Dine LA menu. I was shocked, but I agreed because… what else am I supposed to do at that point?

The ribeye finally comes out grisly and tough — not even close to worth the detour, the wait, or the upcharge. My partner’s filet mignon also is dried out, obvious that they fired it an hour ago when the prime rib was supposed to come out and left it under a heat lamp to dry out.

We paid the bill and still left a tip, but we walked out kind of stunned at how many missteps happened in one dinner.

We ended up eating at 10pm after coming in at 8pm and basically wasted our whole night for a subpar meal, been strung along and possibly lied to, and left with a bad taste in our mouths.

Our server Reuben was excellent. He congratulated us on our anniversary and went above and beyond to make sure our first time here was exceptional. Besides the wonderful food we had tonight, we ordered dessert and Reuben prepared a baked Alaska for us to celebrate our anniversary. Flames and all. What a nice show, you don’t see much these days anymore. Usually baked Alaska is prepared back in the kitchen. Thank you Derby and Reuben for making us feel special tonight.

Disappointing. Had reservations for 7:30. It was 20 minutes before we were able to order drinks… He said it would just be a few minutes. Another 20 minutes we get our drinks and again he said he’ll be right back to take our order. It was another 15 minute wait. When we finally ordered and my mom asked for the prime rib,she said the kitchen was out of prime rib. First off,why didn’t he tell us that beforehand instead of disappointing all of us. We all had to scramble and figure out what else to order, delaying getting food even longer. The other issue is that if the wait time between ordering drinks, waiting on drinks and such had been more prompt we may not have missed out on the prime rib. When I made reservations I made a point of saying we were coming for the prime rib for my mom’s birthday… We all left deflated after being excited to try a different place. We usually go to Del Rae or Lawrys for prime rib.. I get it, your busy. How about hiring more waiters so we aren’t sitting there for so long.

Absolutely Exceptional!

From the moment we walked into the restaurant , we knew we were in for a treat. The atmosphere was warm and inviting . Our server, was knowledgeable, attentive and with good humor.

Everything about the experience — from the food to the service to the atmosphere — was top-notch. Easily one of the best steakhouses I’ve ever been to. Can’t wait to come back!
