Super amazing and very tasty food. Staff were very nice. Visually a nice place. We sat at the bar. My wife had tequila old-fashioned drink that was delicious. I had the best bake beans that I ever had. My main course was the pot roast that was so tender and flavorful.

If I had ten stars I’d probably rate this restaurant a 8.5 or 9. But given that I have only five, I’d have to say they’re closer to 5 than 4.

Service = excellent, spot on.

Ambiance = nice, open kitchen style, fun atmosphere

Food was most hit and a few miss. The chicken, unfortunately, was fairly bland. But so many other things including the salmon, dumplings, salads, mashed potatoes, gravy, entre accompaniments, and drinks were really great.

Very gourmet food, for sure. With some dishes I felt they tried a little too hard to be unique and the overall taste suffered. But most items we’re delicious.

Great dessert options.

Overall great experience. I’d go back.

Even on a Saturday the weight time was just right. The menu isn’t expansive, and it doesn’t need to be. You get quality with every item.

We had two different Benedict’s and a Country Fried Steak.

First, this is not a traditional Benedict, other than the sauce. The two of us that ordered the Benedict were surprised and a little disappointed by the biscuit over the English Muffin. It made it hard to get a good total bite. Flavors were good though, and the choices for the combinations felt well thought out.

Second, that Country Fried Steak was great. No complaints.

You won’t be disappointed coming here. The staff are attentive and friendly and everything is clean. The only issue with the space is that it can a bit claustrophobic; lots of people, not a lot of space.

I agree , it’s overpriced. Food is good. With the veggie hash, I got corned beef. It’s just missing something … maybe a sauce ? Or toast ? Just something . I do really like the Benedict served on a biscuit! It’s so so good. Lots of flavor and really filling . Loved. Atmosphere- I dunno… we came in at the end of the brunch serving time and the staff just was tired and didn’t pay attention to me asking for an extra plate for my son. Overall, I’m not super impressed.

First time trying this place. Seen on guy’s DDD show. Menu looks very ambitious. I can’t decide so ended up with the classic fried chicken. It was good but I didn’t jumped off my seat. The highlight was the juicy chicken breast, more than the dark meat. Sitting at the kitchen counter I noticed a lot more paletable dishes being churned out. But definitely will come back to try other scrumptious looking dishes.

A few years later I revisited the place several more times and I think the service got better and dishes are a lot more satisfying.

Overpriced, hipster atmosphere with fantastic service at the bar and high quality food. We had an enjoyable time but it isn’t my style so I am unlikely to return, it’s too crowded for my liking. The apple cider is up there with some of the best I’ve ever had though. Pictures are of the country fried steak and the fried chicken meal. #Brunch #Pdx

-Pretty good service, sub-par food. All of my breading came off my chicken fried steak. ALL of it. My sister ordered the Braised beef, it was a small portion served in a small cast iron, and 40% of the piece of beef was all fat. Pure fat. $23 worth of fat. My Aunt and uncle had shrimp po boys. There was a total of only 6-8 shrimp total on the sandwich. My other aunt’s red snapper was over cooked and dry. The onion straws (not rings) were light and tasty. My mom and cousin liked their fried chicken. The “whole hog”, ordered by my fiance was just okay. No grill marks on the chop like seen in the picture. Seemed like it was cooked on the flat top, and it had a gas taste to it, and was over cooked and dry. We had a party of 10+, so I get things won’t be perfect. But, after waiting to eat here for a few years, it was a huge let down. Plus, no bottomless beverages either. It’s just lemonade for Pete’s sake. Don’t plan on returning. Over priced, sub par food. Sorry, don’t see what the big deal is. Unless we caught them on a bad day. We spent hundreds of dollars on food that I could’ve cooked wayyyyy better.

Posted once before and I will post my short review again… Food is awesome, fried chicken plate was spectacular and the slow cooked beef was delectable. Definitely try the house beef jerky. It pairs well with the craft brews from a brewery right down the street… I will miss Country Cat until my next opportunity….at which I will order the Whole Hog plate!

“It’s everything you want fried chicken to be.” —Guy Fieri

The Country Cat was highlighted on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives, so I had to stop by. It lived up to the hype. The fried chicken sandwich was fantastic. Everything, even the ketchup, is made from scratch. Although I didn’t partake, if you’re a Bloody Mary fan, it looked like you should try one. We watched as they were being made and they looked tasty.

If you’re a home chef, pick up a copy of Heartlandia: Heritage Recipes from Portland’s The Country Cat. Great cookbook with recipes from the restaurant. I’ve enjoyed several recipes.

The food was amazingly delicious! I got the French toast, which was fantastic! The pears and cream and bread all went together wonderfully. And they had REAL maple syrup, which most places don’t have, so I can’t have pancakes and such usually when I go for breakfast somewhere. I also got a single sweet cream biscuit, which was soooo good, I’m regretting not getting an order of them to go to take home with me. And I got a half order of bacon, because I love bacon, and they did a great job of cooking it just right. My friend ordered one of the fried chicken dishes, and I snagged a bite, the fried skin was crispy and flavorful while the meat inside was nice and moist. And it comes with collard greens, which tasted great, I believe it’s cooked in bacon grease, and that adds so much good flavor to them.
