My former work mom brought me here for lunch. She and her husband are fantastic chefs so I would follow them anywhere because it’s always good. I am trying to understand how anyone could give this place low ratings. This is typical Shanghai food and Shanghai is one of the top food cities in the world in my opinion. The chefs in this kitchen have incredible wok skills and an extremely hot stove. I can’t remember the last time I had string beans this crisp. Same for the shrimp – perfect texture. The eggplant had a crisp skin and soft center. The braised pork you could tell was cooked for a while because the sauce was reduced nicely. The dishes were all simple but cooked to perfection. The flavors were all distinct and delicious. For weekday lunch they have specials. I can’t wait to come back and try other dishes

Shanghainese food was exceptional. We went for a tasting and we’re pleased with the food. We started out with appetizers. Marinated layered bean curd, smoked fish, marinated beans, cold drunkened chicken, jellyfish with cucumbers, sweet bbq pork ribs, and ham cuts with vinegar/ginger dip.

The appetizers were all exceptional with a flavor of is own.

Dinner consisted of herbal chicked soup, crab with rice cakes in wine sauce, sweet and sour rock cod, smoked duck, beef ribs, steamed eggs with clams, stir fried shrimp and for dessert: black sesame

Came during lunch, the food is really good, authentic Shanghai dishes. Steam chicken scallion is very flavorful. Tofu skin in tofu skin mung beans is very soft. Fried shrimp is also good. Crab meet noodle you can taste the sea. 佛跳墙 is very nice, ingredients used are what you expected, taste great. Service is excellent, server checked in on us constantly, made sure we got everything, and add water to tea pot without us asking. Plenty of parking in parking lot

Shanghai cuisine isn’t something I frequently indulge in, so I won’t pretend to be an expert on its authenticity. However, what I can confidently declare is that the food here was absolutely delicious!

Peanut & Port Feet Soup. This dish was a revelation! The soup was incredibly flavorful and had a unique nutty richness that was both comforting and satisfying. The addition of port feet added a delightful texture and depth to the soup, making it a must-try.

The Stir-Fried Pork Kidneys and Liver were equally impressive. The dish was skillfully prepared, and the flavors were well-balanced. The pork kidneys and liver were cooked to perfection – tender and succulent, without a hint of overcooking. The seasoning was spot on, making every bite a delightful experience. Pair it with some steamed rice, and you’re in for a treat!

Braised Eels with Bamboo Shoots was a delightful combination of flavors and textures. The eels were tender, and the bamboo shoots added a nice crunch, creating a harmonious dish that paired wonderfully with rice. The ambiance at The Bund 8 was cozy and inviting, creating a perfect atmosphere for a memorable dining experience. The staff was attentive and friendly, always ready to assist and provide recommendations.

No. 8 on the Bund restaurant in San Gabriel beautifully captures the essence of its Shanghai namesake. While it may lack the stunning Bund view, it more than compensates with its impressive array of authentic Shanghainese cuisine. I was particularly enamored with their grilled whole fish in scallion and Shanghainese sauce—a dish that truly transported me back to the flavors of Shanghai. Equally delightful was the noodle in scallion oil, boasting a remarkable authenticity and flavor.

One of the standout features of this restaurant is its exceptional value. With lunch offerings priced at under $12, you can savor your favorite dishes without breaking the bank. The extensive menu offers a plethora of choices, and I highly recommend indulging in their fried dumplings and the universally beloved braised pork belly. The attentive and friendly service further enhances the dining experience.

Upon stepping inside, the decor immerses you in Shanghai’s charm, adorned with Shanghai-style photos and wall art. While the restaurant may not provide the iconic Bund view, it undeniably captures the essence of Shanghainese cuisine and culture. No. 8 on the Bund in San Gabriel is a true gem for those seeking an authentic taste of Shanghai in a cozy and inviting setting.

We went to this location before, but in a different restaurant name. The Bund 8 is Chinese cuisine specializing Shanghai style dishes.

All dishes are very authentic n tasty. We have 8 people, and we ordered 2 appetizers n 6 dishes. Food is plenty. We ordered their specialized steam chicken soup n sweet n sour fish: the top expensive dishes in the menu, but they are worth trying.

Go before 6, cuz they will be all busy after that.

Haven’t been back here since it’s been sold from two owners ago. The switch to Shanghai cuisine is nice! I like the way the 馬蘭頭 (Indian Aster) was finely chopped. It’s the smallest I’ve seen anywhere! The 油爆蝦 was cut down the middle to better let the oils get all the way in, making the skin really crisp! Their 外灘香酥鴨 (“Outer Beach” Crisp-Fried duck) was really good. It looked like it would have been dried out, but the juices stayed inside, and still maintained a crispy skin. The 蔥烤立魚 (Scallion-grilled Snapper) was alright, it featured a sweet-soy sort of taste, that smothered the entire fish with. The 紅燒肉 (Red-braised Pork) is pretty standard, but still good! Just make sure to be ready for the Heart attack! Then we topped it off with the 白果污泥甜湯 (Gingko + Tarot Puree Dessert Soup).

Pretty good dim sum food with excellent service by a very friendly gentlemen that works here. It’s actually a pretty small restaurant but it wasn’t packed because we came early. Also there isn’t anyone pushing food carts but instead you check mark the item you want to order on the paper menu. That way you get freshly made dim sum hot and fresh to you.

Very nice and authentic shanghaiese cuisine. The location used to be an authentic cantonese restaurant. The dishes are different from what we usually seen at other shanghaiese dishes, i will definitely go and try out more…

Portions were a bit small but the food was REALLY GOOD, and honestly made up for the size. The sauce of the braised pork was so delicious, especially with rice, that we had to order it twice! The Xiao long bao were also delicious and the service and atmosphere was great.

For those with a peanut allergy, do be aware that the pan fried pork buns have peanuts in them!
