This restaurant was recommended to me by a guest where I work. The authentic German food here was incredible. I absolutely loved everything I tried. The German potato salad was delicious. This has become our new restaurant for lunch when headed to the Norfolk airport.

I had such a great experience here that I got take-away the next day! Had lunch here on a Saturday and got the big pretzel appetizer with cold cuts and cheese and it was great! And my server was fantastic and recommended the perfect honeysuckle summer beer to go with it! I was very happy and it’s such a fun atmosphere inside and outside with all the draping vines and lights over the outdoor tables. Makes you really feel like you’re someplace else! The next day I got currywurst and potato salad and it was also very good, but nothing beats sitting inside.

Super cute and cozy. DELICIOUS food and the BSST GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE I have EVER had. My first visit was yesterday, and I took my husband out today. It was the perfect amount of food and quiet enough on a beautiful March day. If you don’t know what to order. Start with fried mushrooms, the curry bratwurst with a side of ceasar salad and finish with the chocolate cake. Perfect amount.

Great food. Tasteful. Great beer!

*Edit-#2* – I am impressed with the timely response of the management and have expressed concerns. Up a star for him caring and we shall see if it gets looked in to. 🙂 hi hope it does. I very much used to like this place^
**EDIT** went back again for the maybe 5 or 6 time. Last time and this most recent. Food was horrid. The Sauerbraten was dry, overcooked and tasted of pure vinegar. Nothing else. And I really like vinegar. Then, for some reason, the cook (for sure not a chef) thought it woe to drench the entire plate in the vinegar sauce. The spatzle was sopping wet in vinegar sauce too. The cucumber salad was good, but again, vinegar. Now I know I ordered vinegar with vinegar but drowning a plate in just vinegar said, with zero flavor to it aside form the vinegar…that’s just shows the porky rises , uncaring kitchen staff they must have running it.
This abomination of a German dish goes against all this place has been. It’s what Inexperience and uncaring with poor management results in.
My wife got the same thing. Same result. Except she got the potatoes. She liked those.
When I asked the server about it, her words were “yea, they put vinegar all over everything back there.”
…..ummm. Why??
Then, we got dessert. The Apfel strudel. Or so we thought.
Whatever this abortion of dish that was brought out was definitely not that. The picture of this apple failed contraption speaks volumes.
The beer was still good though.
Our bill was $75 for two people. You got us. We won’t be back. And we do plan to share this experience with EVERY SINGLE PERSON we can, so as they won’t waste their money nor time there too.
I hope the nice owner man is still around. He needs to fire that kitchen and bring in people that know how to make food.

What a great spot. The bartender was nice and told us the origin story of its hardworking owner. The beers are great and they even have Belgiums on tap. Will be back!

First time here and I am glad I stopped by. Fun place. My step son came with his Grands. He loved it. So I had to stop by. Really fun and the food was great. Got the Ruben but with fried pork. Was good. I will try the corn beef next time. Food was good. German beers for days. If you try them all they probably give you a medal. Includes ciders. Anyone in the 757 should go once .. quote that

Had a great time! Food was delicious and the service was top notch. Amber took care of us and from the moment she introduced herself we knew it would be good. She was working her butt off but kept making sure we had everything we needed, gave her recommendations, and ensured we were satisfied with our order. She cleared plates quickly, kept drinks full, and cracked us up with her winning personality. Keep that one we will be back for her!

I had such a great time tonight! The bartender was absolutely amazing and a total pro when it came to helping me pick out some delicious beers. Honestly, between that beer list and the noodles, this is always the best spot in Portsmouth. The atmosphere is so warm; it truly feels like a family place where everyone knows everyone and is just having a blast. I remember coming here as a kid (younger), and that wonderful feeling has genuinely never left. I will definitely be back next time I’m in town!

Three of us ate their this afternoon. Two of us had schnitzel which was good. Unfortunately I chose the Sauerbraten which is a favorite of mine having lived in Bayern for several years. I first noticed trying to cut the meat that it was really tough, dry, and stringy. It should be the same as a well cooked pot roast. I then tasted it. The meat fibers were hard and tough and the sauce was totally overpowering. The salt alone was so strong it killed any possible taste. I would guess this had been reheated numerous times or left on the stove for so long that the sauce had reduced so much that it caused this and the beef had lost any pretense of being tender. I did not even finish the first bite. I then told our server Amber that this was not the sauerbraten I was looking for. She nodded and left. The next time she came by, about 20 minutes later, I said this is extremely salty. My wife and son had finished there meals by then but I had a full plate. Again no response. Next she brought the check and asked if I wanted a carryout box. I said no way this is not edible. No response. That was three opportunities to correct the problem. I find it hard to comprehend any server not noticing an untouched plate much less three comments about the food being bad. I paid the bill and left. Neither I or my family will be back.
