I must say, as dining hall food goes, this is fairly okay. Sometimes the shrimp is undercooked and the salmon is over cooked but the vibes are great. The pasta station has gone downhill since freshman year, and the fries took a steep dive after the pandemic but it’s ok because now there are onion rings. If you go you MUST stop by Paws to say hi to Dorothy and remember to shake your drink. I really appreciate the composting effort here (fun fact—if a clear plastic cup says green ware, it can be composted!) although boxed water still makes me uncomfortable. I would give five stars if they brought back the plastic trays—those were truly a staple of freshman year sledding on art hill.

When I first started freshman year, I had high hopes for this food. Originally enjoying the notable “Tikka Tuesday,” I was appalled as the food continued to decline. What was once tasteful food felt slimy and under-seasoned. The enjoyment I once had for food was lost over time because of the inconsistency and mediocrity of this cuisine. Not to mention whoever thought up a pickle and hot dog pizza. This is a far cry from gourmet.

The bears den. The best stir fry, pasta, and times I’ve ever had. Every moment at the bears den has been a blessing. As a graduating senior at Washington university in St. Louis, it means so much to have spent my four years chowing down at ciao down. From seeing my crush at BD to dating him years later, BD holds the most special place in my heart. I love the taco salad, the egg sandwich, and the pasta station. Thank you for everything! Love u bd

This is a fine dining establishment, like seriously gourmet. While the culinary experience wavered in the wake of the global pandemic, this year has proved to me that the staff shows a real commitment to students. The only thing that could currently better butter my bread, so to speak, more effectively is if they reintroduced their fine chicken and waffle delicacy.

This is a wholesome venue, a place where one goes to create memories. There are a variety of options that one can go to. For example, pasta (not worthy of Italy though), pizza (same thing), half and half (fries and fried chicken), etc. The staff is lovely. However, I must reveal an annoyance. They changed the fries, my favorite in the world, and I have never been angrier.

The egg sandwich is the best thing on the menu, but it takes a while. Pasta and stir fry get old quickly.

BD is great in a pinch, though it is not my first choice if I have other options. Some of the stations provide passable food that I have come to depend on during my time at WashU. I have found myself craving a half n half a handful of times, but the rest of the food is just okay. For the kajillion dollar endowment WashU could hire a better catering service. The workers are earnest and deserve to be paid more than minimum wage.

When eating at “The Bears’ Den” the lack of culinary creativity is clear. The peas are mushed, the mashed potatoes are soggy, and the chicken taste like wood. Would that I could lend even one iota of ability and drive to the kitchen management; yet I fear them incapable of understanding anything more sophisticated then underseasonded varieties of beans and rice, as demonstrated in the past.

Starting with the Kosher station, it’s lacking. Stir-fry is prepared yaki-soba noodles but is quite exquisite. Great dining experience, overall. Can’t wait to come back.

Big fan of the bears den. Kosher section is the best with stir fry as a close second. Egg sandwiches have gone downhill over the years but inflation amiright?
