After trying dishes from most of the food carts at Asylum, Texicano has become my #1 go-to, the food is phenomenal! I always recommend my friends try their Mad Rooster, a standout fried chicken sandwich with amazing chipotle mayo sauce. I am eating my way through the menu here (the staff always has good recommendations) and have loved every dish, I can’t wait to go back and try more. If you are exploring SE Portland you need to check out Asylum and stop by Texicano for high quality food with impressively fast and friendly service.

Tucked away in the corner of the Hawthorne Asylum is one of the best carts in the entire pod. Had the skirt steak sandwich and a side of fries: I annihilated it within minutes. Incredibly fresh ingredients, everything very well seasoned, portion size was hearty and good value. Would have photos to add but myself and my friend finished our sandwiches too quickly.

Been here a couple times now and it’s always been amazing. Don’t be turned off by the gimmicky look of the place—the food is delicious. Had the special, “Tacos Locos,” and I hope it becomes part of the regular menu. It was plenty of food for two people and such a wonderfully thought-out layering of flavors. Highly recommended.
