Appetizers were not freshly prepared, maybe was good for the 5pm crew, not when we went at 8pm for dinner.

Ordered this place for takeout after having a negative experience somewhere else, the ramen broth was tasty and the takoyaki seemed fresh. My only complaint would be a lack of chopsticks in the order (my fault for not specifying utensils) and the chicken katsu side which honestly didn’t taste that good. Overall a solid 4/5 restaurant however, and I would recommend ordering food from here.

Friendly and quick staff and great food for a good price! Enjoy having dinner here before catching a movie at North Park Theatre. Drinks are good as well -they have Hayburner on tap. Highly recommend

Taisho Hertel is fantastic! I just hosted my graduation party in their upstairs private party room this Friday, and the staff at Taisho were amazing. We ordered 5 sushi sashimi boats, 2 sushi platters, a tray of chicken fried rice, tonkatsu for kids, 4 okonomiyaki, and a tray of salad for 23 people. The staff arranged all the food buffet style for us, and were extremely attentive to our party the entire night. We ordered multiple rounds of drinks and desserts, and it was very easy to order more food throughout the night when we needed. We had to rearrange the tables to accommodate more people than we initially had planned, and the staff was so accommodating to our needs! The room was perfect for our group size, and the food and drinks were extremely fresh and well made, especially the sushi and sashimi. The price was so reasonable, and I would highly suggest anyone who wants to host a large group event to consider Taisho Hertel. I can’t rave about their staff, food, and drinks enough. Thank you to Andy, and all the other staff who made it such a fun and stress-free evening for us!

I’m so excited, The City of Buffalo has a new upscale Japanese restaurant on Hertel! The food at Taisho Hertel is fantastic, and the presentation of everything we ordered was very impressive. We found the atmosphere and service to be a bit disjointed. Upon walking in, it was great to see they kept the historic Buffalo mural up behind the bar (although the host had no idea of when it was from or where it was taken) I had to look it up to find it was from the 1901 Buffalo Labor Day Parade on Main Street-very cool! The restaurant and bar have great potential, but the complete lack of any music left it feeling lifeless. We had no idea who our waiter was the entire evening. They attempted to bring other table’s orders over to us a few times. The service wasn’t bad. It was just confusing. You could tell they were trying. We would also love to see some more drink options to stay competitive with the restaurant bars on Hertel. Aside from their specialty drink menu, their options are very limited. Our reservation was for 6 pm on Saturday. We were lucky to find a parking spot right out front (it seems only street parking is available). They seated us promptly when we arrived, which was much appreciated. Overall, it was a very enjoyable evening! With a little fine tuning, Taisho Hertel could easily be in the running as one of the best sushi restaurants in the city!

First time visiting here and I was pretty underwhelmed. While it is a great space with plenty of seating, I didn’t necessarily love the food. There weren’t many vegetarian options available on such a large menu, and something tasted a bit off with my beef udon soup. Every time I’ve ordered beef udon soup in the past it usually comes with shaved beef, but this seemed to come with leftover cuts of peppered beef. Also one of our three meals came significantly later than our other two mains, which left one person not eating while the other two were. Absolutely loved the veggie dumplings and sushi though!

We got violently ill after eating here, and even when I mentioned the odd taste to the chef I was basically told that’s how their food always tastes… it was honestly scary how sick me and my wife got and we even went to the urgent care on Sheridan the next day because it was so bad. With so many wonderful places in WNY this would be one I would avoid.
