Very small place, but food was decent.
Guacamole was bland. Felt like it needed salt and some heat.
The salsas for the chips were AMAZING though. Different flavors and level of heat.
The beans in my dish were really good.
The rice could use some more seasoning, but decent. The enchiladas had absolutely no flavor and (again) could use some seasoning.
Overall, it tasted very watered down

My brother and I enjoyed our meal, and he’s a bit of a connoisseur with Mexican food. We particularly enjoyed the four salsas that arrived with the tortilla chips, which really made the experience nice. (They had a variety of flavors and heat levels; some hot, some less so.) It isn’t a big restaurant, so I don’t know that a big group would fit here. Also, the parking was in back, something I didn’t know on the way to the restaurant.

I’ve been visiting this spot semi-regularly for the past few months, and I’ve yet to leave disappointed. The food is consistently very good, flavorful, moreish, and packed with that rich taste you expect from Mexican food (though sometimes a bit on the oily side).
One thing I really appreciate is the portion sizes. A lot of the dishes I’ve tried have been surprisingly large, which makes the meals feel like great value. Service has also been reliably pleasant. It’s never slow or frustrating, though there are occasional communication hiccups, likely partly due to my own unusual accent (I found it quite challenging to communicate that I wanted something on the side).
When I first started coming here, the prices were one of the standout observations: excellent value for the quality and quantity you get. Recently, though, they’ve increased the prices on several items, including sides, specials, and promos. The birria burrito in particular jumped quite a bit; it’s still huge and tasty, but now feels a bit pricey. A half-size version might be a great option for people wanting something more budget-friendly.
And overall, my biggest frustration with the price increase is on the sides. For example, the rice portion is already pretty small and doesn’t feel like great value, especially considering how inexpensive rice usually is.
On the plus side, they offer free chips and a selection of house-made salsas, all of which are delicious and can be refilled upon request. I’d personally love to see a chunkier salsa option someday too as a personal request.

Great experience at Tacos La Familia! The staff was very polite and welcoming—even though we arrived right before their 6 pm closing time, they still kindly served us to go. The pambazo was delicious and full of flavor, and the al pastor burrito was huge and absolutely amazing. Authentic, flavorful Mexican food. Totally recommend!

This place was hard to find; it’s a hidden gem located next to La Tapatia #4. Once you walk in, you are greeted by a friendly atmosphere. The tacos ahogados were absolutely to die for—extremely delicious and bursting with flavor. They have definitely become my new favorite!

First time going and it won’t be the last. I read the reviews and everything is as people say. First off the only down thing about it is the location and how small the place is inside. However none of that matters because they sure back it up with the reviews and the frames saying they have the best tacos in Des Moines. They are the best, all these taco food trucks out here need to learn a lot. They have the best tacos and best salsas. The guacamole was fresh. % recommend!!!

Amazing place, they brought out 4 kinds of salsa that were all delicious. We took advantage of the Taco Tuesday deal. Everything was very tasty, and the staff were all super friendly! Oh and prices were very reasonable!

EXCELLENT FOOD, PRICES, SERVICE AND ATMOSPHERE! I was here with some coworkers just before 6pm on a Friday night fir a farewell dinner. We were happy to find an open table immediately. The aroma coming from the kitchen was heavenly! Between the 4 of us we ordered a chicken quesadilla 3 different types of street tacos and a while fried fish. Everything was tasty and fresh.
I will definitely go back there again.
