Stepping into this taco spot was like finding a genuine Denton hidden gem! The atmosphere is great, but the service is what truly makes the experience unforgettable. The taquero is incredibly welcoming; on my first visit, they even let me try two tacos for free just to sample the quality! When it’s slower, the owner comes out and serves the food in waves, creating a personalized culinary experience that shows they genuinely want you to enjoy every bite.
The food itself is nothing short of an OMG moment—easily some of the best, most authentic tacos I’ve ever had. Everything is perfectly seasoned and comes in generous portions, from the crispy saudero to the flavorful campechano.
However, the absolute star of the show is the Al Pastor taco. The combination of the perfectly prepared meat with caramelized onions and that slice of fresh pineapple on top was the biggest flavor explosion I’ve encountered in a taco. My husband and I agreed: they might be the best we’ve ever had, period. The quesadillas are a close second! This isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a taste of Mexico with service that feels like family. I will absolutely be back weekly!

OMG. Best tacos I’ve ever had. We got an array of different items, everything was absolutely amazing. The two stars of the show were the quesadilla and al pastor tacos. The pineapple on top of the al pastor was the biggest flavor explosion I’ve ever had while eating a taco. My husband and I were talking about it and think they may have been the best tacos we’ve ever had.
The other great part about this spot, is that at least when it is slow, he will come out and serve your food to you in waves. It was like sharing an experience with a chef that really wanted you to enjoy your food. I so hope this place takes off and stays. I will be back weekly!

I decided to try this place after seeing the amazing reviews. When I arrived, the owner noticed I hadn’t been there before so he let me try 2 tacos FOR FREE. I ended up buying 2 pastor tacos & 2 campechano tacos and they were the best tacos I’ve EVER HAD. 10/10 would recommend!!!

This is a hidden gem in Denton. The Taquero is very welcoming and gives you 2 free tacos to try on your first visit. I got Pastor with piña and caramelized onions is amazing a little taste of Mexico. Saudero Tacos were crispy, hot ,and fresh off the grill to die for. Highly recommend them if you want authentic tacos.

We’ve been getting our tacos from Tacos el Gordo since they opened last year. Their food is amazing, the meats are juicy and flavorful, the music is on point, and service is above the rest. Our family loves driving-in in my husband’s truck and sitting in the back to eat. Tacos El Gordo is as authentic as it gets. 10/10, definitely recommend!

I got their pastor, tripa and carne asada tacos. I got 16 tacos in total, one torta and a quesadilla. The quesadilla wasn’t really worth the price due to the size but the good thing was that I was packed with meat and cheese. The torta was amazing I highly recommend it if you don’t want tacos. Tripa and asada were really good and flavorful! The pastor was good but I personally felt it was missing something but still worth it though ! I would say that this place is expensive for what you get and they don’t post their prices so you don’t really know how much you’re getting charged until the end. That’s the only flaw of this place high price and no prices on the food.

First time here, I don’t think they have a menu? I wanted to get a single taco or gordita but wanted to see a menu to decide. The guy acted nice and asked if I had been there before but without ordering anything at all he kept giving me different taco after taco, I even asked twice ‘are you sure!?’ thinking he was giving them to me for free since I hadn’t ordered anything at all. But he didn’t respond both times. Then I ordered a drink and he said it’s $10 and I very much thought he was joking but looking at my bank statement he was serious. Straight forward honest communication and business, responding when people look at you surprised saying ‘are you sure!?’ will both greatly help your business survive. I’ve not experienced dishonesty like this from a business since being in Mexico. There’s a lot of good Mexican food in Denton and not one of them ever did this before with me. Two out of the three tacos were great but I wouldn’t have ordered three if paying for it, I’d only order one and definitely no drink. I’d like to go back but I don’t trust people when they do dishonest things like this.
