Overall Rating and is it worth a visit: 8.75/10 and Yes. This was the second time we came here, following a nice morning hike with the dogs. They can be found right between Bear Creek Road and Bear Creek itself, with Switchback being a cozy little spot with indoor and outdoor picnic table seating, and a full bar available. As one of the only places serving up smoked duck as an option, I would recommend this place to anyone driving by, but would also say it’s worth making the short trip from Denver for a destination visit as well. Wide-ranging and non-traditional BBQ menu that includes items such as Montreal Brisket, which should please almost anyone in your group, with a dog-friendly patio that makes a great spot for a post-hike bite. Reasonably priced and with a super-friendly staff, I would recommend making a stop as they are easily a Top 10 BBQ location to visit in Colorado. Full review at The House Of Salt & Smoke

Hands down the best BBQ I’ve ever had. My dog Cooper and I were greeted by Chef Scotty- tremendous guy & incredibly welcoming. I had a devils elbow with mule sauce- so many different layers of flavor in this sandwich & sauce. I’d drive from Chicago just for this sandwich. I got the spare ribs to go, and needless to say- just fantastic. Super dog friendly on the patio & the views of the river are spectacular.

The food was somewhat average, I would not recommend the Mac n cheese, quite bland otherwise, the duck, ribs and fries were tasty and tender. There is seating outside beside a the river and there are heaters in the sunroom if it’s chilly. There is a small bar. The staff were welcoming and explained everything clearly. Nice little stop if you’re passing through.

I can’t stop thinking about this place, and the incredible smoked duck. I’ll be honest chat GPT recommended switchback as part of a days itinerary exploring Red Rocks and the surrounding area. I’m a huge BBQ fan so we quickly added it to our day. Switchback Smokehouse is everything you want in a perfect BBQ place, the unassuming roadside location with a verity of smokers sitting outside a simple menu with a list of meats, a list of sides and a few sandwich specialties. My wife and I went for the sampler approach ordering 4 meats and 3 sides to share. Every meat had an amazing Smokey flavor with great balance tenderness.
The Meats:
I have to call out the star of the show was the smoked duck breast, moist and juicy, filled with flavor just melted in your mouth. A close second for me was the bacon, oh how I wish I would have ordered a dozen slices to enjoy for the next week (who am I kidding they would be gone before dinner). The smoked salmon was great as well and very moist unlike most smoked salmons I have had. The brisket was different that I was expecting, sliced super thin it almost reminded me more of roast beef, as with everything else still fantastic just different from what I was expecting.
Sides:
The baked beans had great flavor and were the right level of sweet for me. I find a lot of places beans are far over sweetened or overcooked. These beans were neither of those. The Mac and cheese was also good, and not overdone trying to be the hero as I have found at some other bbq joints.
Coleslaw was nice as well
Sauces:
First off all of the meats could stand on their own and they didn’t require sauces. However all four sauce options were very well done. I’m a sucker for a mustard sauce and would rank the mustard sauce right up there with the best I’ve ever had. The root beer sauce was a pleasant surprise, with its sweet but not overpowering notes.
Conclusion:
Hop in the car, grab your neighbor, spouse, friend or enemy and go, it’s so worth it!

We have been coming here for years. Every bite blows up the taste buds in your mouth. The meat just falls right off the bone. Everything is tender and cooked to perfection. I love the asparagus with the Hollandaise sauce. The duck ribs and bacon are my favorites. The drinks are made just right in the ambiance gives the total Mountain feel. Dog friendly as well

Right by Bear Creek you can find tables in the shade right next to the creek. The food was good, except being from Texas im not sure what “Montreal style brisket” was, turns out it is thinly cut (like bacon) and pretty fatty. Everything else was good though, although I’d stick with the pulled pork here. The sauces were all excellent.

Amazing BBQ, and a super cool place to eat. Outdoor seating right next to a beautiful mountain stream. We went here after visiting Red Rock amphitheater. Great staff, and the food is amazing. The root beer BBQ sauce is crazy good!
