Sushi Sho Rexley – St. Petersburg – a MICHELIN Guide Restaurant

A block from the busy bar scene in St Pete’s downtown, Chef Rexley Kwok’s sushi counter is equal parts skillful and approachable.

This was so lovely. My husband was super late because there was some kind of event in downtown St. Pete. So I would tell anyone who’s trying to come here to figure out parking beforehand. But the staff was so polite and completely understanding – they even reserved the two dishes he missed so he could enjoy them afterwards, and the food (and sake pairing) was out of this world. Definitely an amazing experience and if my wallet allows it, I would love to go back!

Best sushi in Florida! My husband and I have had sushi in Japan and various states in the USA. We have found a lot of great locations. This is by far our favorite in the USA. The fish is not only fresh but meticulously crafted and served. We go 1-2 times per year and the experience is never quite the same, but always incredible. The communication barrier with some of the staff can be a slight challenge, but mostly the entire staff is friendly and helpful and, most importantly, very passionate about their work (art!). Yes, it’s expensive, but you get what you pay for 🙂 thank you, Rexley and team, for being the culinary highlight of our year for each of last ~5 years! We will continue coming back to experience the amazing sushi you create!

Journey Journey
We dined at Sushi Sho Rexley for a special occasion, with expectations aligned to the stated price of approximately $198 per person before tax and service. Based solely on my personal experience, the evening did not align with what I associate with a high-end omakase restaurant.
Upon arrival, there was a noticeable scent to me, and the overall setting felt informal and temporary rather than refined. Music played from a small portable speaker, and several visible items in the dining area gave me the impression of a non-permanent setup.
During service, refills such as ginger were brought from basic plastic containers, which, to me, felt inconsistent with the premium positioning of the meal. When the nigiri course began, the fish appeared to be pre-sliced and assembled quickly rather than prepared and presented at the counter. For me personally, this reduced the sense of craftsmanship I typically expect in this format.
From a flavor perspective, the dishes felt mild and uniform. Personally, none stood out in a way that justified the cost. The pacing felt fast, with little sense of a structured progression.
The final bill for two guests, including one simple glass of wine, was approximately $440 before gratuity. Based on my experience and personal expectations, the value did not align with the price.
This review reflects only my personal impressions and dining experience.

Absolutely phenomenal experience at Sushi Sho Rexley. This is not just sushi—this is art. Every piece is meticulously prepared, incredibly fresh, and perfectly balanced. You can tell the chef truly respects the ingredients and the craft.

I make it a point to come here every year, and somehow it gets better every single time. The omakase experience is unforgettable—each course is thoughtful, intentional, and somehow better than the last. The ambiance is intimate and welcoming, and the staff makes you feel like a guest in someone’s home rather than just another table.

If you’re serious about sushi, this is a must-visit spot in St. Pete. Worth every penny and then some. Already looking forward to next year.

This is probably the most less qualified omakase I ever experienced. The fish was not fresh at all. Their sauce was so salty especially the one goes with abalone and mushroom. There was nothing impressed us. The purple sweet potato with matcha ice-cream at the end probably was the best dish. Their sakes were good and the host did a good job serving our drinks. Overall, I don’t think I would recommend this place with the price $196 for Signature Omakase. Not worth it.

This was certainly an experience. The service was incredible from the waiter. The chef was a bit offputting. He seemed to pay a lot of attention to the four people directly in front of him even when we would try and ask questions and be a part of the conversation.
I treated my mom to a special evening here and the omakase experience was lovely. For a few I didn’t love, but I was absolutely astonished by more than I anticipated. I would certainly try again for a special occasion as the fish was fresh and the waiter was kind enough to help answer our questions!

We went as a couple for their sushi offering. This was the kind of high-end sushi experience you see on tv. If you can keep an open mind and dare to try new things, you will enjoy this experience. We would definitely go back again to have these unique and rare fishes in sushi form. Wonderful.

Sushi Sho Rexley is such an incredible experience. We’ve been here multiple times now and it never disappoints. The sushi is incredible and the atmosphere is so nice and welcoming. I can’t think of a better place to spend an anniversary or any other special occasion. We will definitely be back again and again!

At only 10 seats, Sushi Sho Rexley is definitely one of the most intimate restaurants in St Pete. Rexley, the master sushi chef, prepares every course by hand right before your eyes. His brother Arte, the embodiment of hospitality, will keep your glasses full and make you feel right at home.

Sushi Sho is true feast of the senses as you watch Rexley slice perfect sheets of sashimi, as you smell the A5 Wagyu searing, as you hear the hear the room descent into perfect silence as each guest suddenly becomes enraptured by the tastes and textures that their tongues are experiencing.

A well deserved Michelin star has now been awarded to this fine establishment and they earned every bit of it. I have personally been eating here since for 7 years now and they always manage to keep the menu changing with the ebb and flow of the seasons and the oceans. Fresh seafood is flown in regularly ensuring you are eating a world class meal every time you dine at Sushi Sho Rexley.

Had very good dinner! We loved it. Very fresh fish, properly handled and served. Lots of flavor yet very simple. I would come back.

Similar to traditional Omakase in Japan
