The food was absolutely amazing and the restaurant itself has a beautiful atmosphere — definitely worth the price for the quality of the dishes and overall experience. However, the service was a bit disappointing. Our server, her name I think was Kon, came across as very flat and not particularly engaging. We tried to be warm and friendly, but she rarely smiled back or made much effort to connect.

When you’re paying for a higher-end dining experience and tipping generously, good customer service really matters. A more welcoming and attentive attitude would have made the evening feel complete. Overall, still a great place for the food, but the service could use some improvement.

Our favorite sushi spot in Los Angeles. It’s a small, old-school Japanese restaurant with an authentic vibe that makes you feel like you’ve been transported straight to Tokyo. We absolutely love sitting at the counter. it’s the best seat in the house for us. where you can watch the chefs skillfully prepare each dish right in front of you.

The quality of the fish is always top-notch, the flavors are clean and balanced, and the presentation is simple yet elegant. Whether it’s sushi, sashimi, or one of their cooked dishes, everything is consistently excellent.

The staff is friendly, professional, and always welcoming, which adds to the overall warm and relaxed experience. It really feels like a hidden gem that hasn’t changed in years, in the best way possible.

This is the original Katsuya, and it truly stands out from the trendier, more modern locations. Plus, parking is super easy. They offer valet service, which is a big plus in L.A.

Must try the fresh shrimp! Sweet like sugar and super fresh.

Top sushi restaurant in studio city.
The service was excellent, from the time we walked in, to leaving, all staff constantly greeted and checked on us to make sure we were doing well.

The grilled green peppers were good, not too spicy.

The sushi was very fresh and tender, and the plates, including teriyaki salmon were tasty.

The place was packed.

The only downside was that their parking lot had zero self parking spaces, only valet parking so if you prefer not to, would need to find nearby street parking, which we did and walk a few blocks to the restaurant.

I wonder to see a good reviews about convenient parking in this facility. First what you met exactly not convenient parking. They have no parking at all, only for pick up two places and valet who is demanding $10 to park car in a very rude and aggressive form. Second place with small space , no bathroom and they bring wet napkins to wash your hands.
Third dishes look not beautiful as on the pictures and the quality of rolls bad. Fourthly, the sushi is flabby and falls apart while you’re bringing it to your mouth. The taste is also not the best. So the rating of 4.6 is too high. The dishes look ridiculous, the portions are small and not appetizing. The vegetables are not fresh. The miso soup is not tasty. The waiter brings the soup and forgets to bring spoons, another waiter promises to bring hot sauce and also forgets about the request. Fifthly, the price for such a lunch is greatly exaggerated. We will not come back here 100%. My rating for this place very low.

Sushi Katsu-ya is a great laid back sushi spot. They have great quality sushi with delectable treats. A very straightforward and traditional maki joint. The sashimi is fresh and clean with generous portions of fish. They will have what you want and crave, but they do get very busy so be prepared for a wait at peak times. Their staff is very polite and friendly with a great no nonsense attitude. Parking isnt great, but the sushi is worth it. I will definitely be back and continue to recommend.

Decent sushi spot in Studio City!

Frankly, the place is very popular but crammed up with seating and mediocre service at best. Both servers juggling our table didn’t really seem to be in a good mood…

Some of the fish quality was quite good but the craftsmanship and attention to detail was minimal… mediocre cuts, mediocre presentation, and mediocre taste overall. With such a visual form of cuisine I would prefer a bit more elegance in plating or higher quality textures.

If you’re looking for the best sushi around, maybe go elsewhere, but it’s worth mentioning the nice variety of Japanese cuisine on the menu. Definitely passable, but not memorable. Might make for a good group meal if you have different preferences all around! Unfortunately this place isn’t somewhere I’d come back to with the wealth of options nearby.

The location is small so there wasn’t alot of space for parking. I went ahead and used the valet service they had. The inside of the restaurant was small and felt a bit cramped. (If you are claustrophobic, be careful) of course there were spaces to move around but it will be difficult for others.

The food was decent but oof pricey. My favorite was the bluefin tuna Trio. For the price of the dish, I understand since it tasted pretty fresh and the presentation was visible. I tried sea urchin for the first time here and I guess I can’t say too much about it other than it being very very strong in ocean flavor.

The service was great! I was well taken care of by our amazing waiter.

Popular sushi spot in Studio City. Service is good, you get served by a whole team instead of one server. Which is not a big deal but different.

They were busy and perhaps that was why service was not particularly attentive today (no drink refill offer and one waiter handed us the wrong food, perhaps it was because we were in the overflow seating outside, but we handed our neighbor’s yellowtail handroll order to them)

Food was delicious and not too pricey for what you get, though for the hype, I was expecting the fish to taste more fresh. The ikura didn’t taste like ikura I was used to, sometimes the way you store ikura can drain the flavor. Not super sure..

The atmosphere though was definitely great and you can feel the excitement and great energy inside. If you’re looking for a place to have a nice meal with friends or family in a fun spot, you will have a great time ☺️

While the sushi is exceptional, you need to look at your bill like a hawk. At first they added 2 pieces of sashimi that I had never ordered. I asked them to correct it. On the 2nd iteration of the bill, they somehow had added a roll that I had never ordered. It took 3 tries to be charged exactly what I had ordered instead of a padded bill that was going to go unnoticed. Very disappointing from an establishment like this.

This restaurant is a go to. Stop the debating, the pondering. Go here. It was exceptional in every single way. I have eaten a lot of Japanese food and in LA this will always be my go to. The food was AMAZING! My family asked the sushi bar employee named Mario to give us whatever his favorites happened to be. He served us an incredible selection of sushi and sashimi that were all devoured in minutes. I ordered the udon dish for myself. I’ve never had Udon but I wanted to try it as all the other food sp far had been amazing. I was not disappointed at all. It was savory and perfect in the cooler weather. Pieces of chicken, lettuce, and egg all came together beautifully. The noodles were soft and wonderful. The dish was amazing. Go here and come here often!

Edit: I wanted to also write how detailed and how much time and effort Mario put into each of the rolls he made. He truly is one of the most amazing workers I’ve ever met anywhere.
