Wife has been coming here for years, this is my second time. Food is always good! Great selection to choose from and always fresh. My wife thinks it’s some of the best tuna around! Crab cake sandwich today for me, nice and meaty. Quick turnaround, but can get busy. Few tables inside and out to eat in or get to go. Lots for fresh seafood and meats you can take home too. Can’t go wrong with the Sugar Shack fish market.

We had a late lunch. Service was very slow but I gave them a pass because it’s the busy season. We ordered hushpuppies to share, 2 sweet teas, a shrimp poboy and a fried combo platter. Everything was pretty good except the coconut shrimp. They were burnt and inedible. We mentioned it to the woman clearing tables and she apologized and disappeared. We threw them out and on the way out stopped by the counter to let them know for the second time there was a problem. We were told they couldn’t do half a refund but did we want pudding? Really? Pudding is supposed to fix it? It’s a shame because they easily could have corrected the issue with a partial refund and we more than likely would have come back. But no, lots of apologies and some pudding we didn’t want, so it’s goodbye forever. In short, If you’ve got an hour and a half to kill and want some overcooked fried seafood this is the spot for you.

My husband and I visit Sugar Shack every time we are in the OBX. I always get the fried oyster platter. My husband usually gets the fried clams strip platter but I think this has been removed from the menu. He opted for the fried popcorn shrimp platter. They both were delicious! It came with coleslaw and we both chose fries as our side. We love the atmosphere and it being right on the water. We had a lovely fella that kept checking on us and talked us into getting the banana pudding. He says they usually run out daily and I can understand that now. We will now be adding the banana pudding to something we get every time we visit. Highly recommend!

They had everything I wanted in a local seafood place: reasonably priced, fresh, and perfectly cooked fish. Just look at how perfectly they grilled that tuna steak. They also had the best she-crab soup I’ve had around these parts. Someone really thoughtful runs the kitchen. Very hospitable and friendly staff. Try their banana bread pudding for a taste of home.

I came here for lunch with my fiancé, and the service was amazing. We were greeted right away the the food came out fairly quickly. The food was so good with the portions being very generous. I will definitely be returning next time I’m in the outer banks.

The food and the service were ok. My husband had a couple of the most popular items, including the shrimp sandwich; he mentioned that it had a good portion of shrimp but it wasn’t wonderful. It was lacking flavor.
