Steak ‘n Shake

  3.4 – 2 reviews  $ • Hamburger restaurant

Steak ‘n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois by Gus Belt who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes. For over 85 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word steak stood for steakburger. The term shake stood for hand-dipped milkshakes. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business. Today, Steak ‘n Shake remains the better burger leader, serving premium 100% beef steakburgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, thin crispy fries, and more. Steakburgers are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, topped with fresh produce, and always hand-crafted to order.

Chain known for steakburgers & milkshakes offering a dinerlike space with retro flair.

This is my first time ever eating here. I have to say completely ignored. Tables are dirty and food was just left on them food Trace left everywhere. But…. the food will completely make up for it

In all honesty this was a complete bummer…after a long day of work I was excited to sit down and enjoy steak n shake! But it’s not like it ever was, you order on a kiosk, the food is not as great as I remember. You don’t get real plates or silverware anymore. No one brings you anything to your table and even the milkshakes were just okay. I used to love everything about Steak N Shake…hell even McDonald’s brings the food to your table. To eat dinner for a family of 4 with milkshakes was $65….just so disappointing. Just another favorite restaurant chain that seems like on the way out.

You walk in and have to order all your food on a kiosk. You rarely ever even see a worker until they put your order on the counter. They have some absolutely fabulous shakes but they are like $6 a piece which is outrageous and their hamburgers are so thin you can see through the patties. The food is good but there’s zero atmosphere, not much value in the food, so that primary reason for going here in my opinion is there overpriced milkshakes. I would miss them when they’re no longer around like the linen Martinsville that disappeared a couple years ago, bit something needs to be done about the pricing on their shakes. They do offer half-priced happy hour but you can’t always make that time frame work.

Food was extremely slow, despite being the only ones inside. I eventually had to change my dine in order to to-go because it took so long.

Don’t go here if you want to eat the same day you order. The couple of times I’ve gotten food here it took entirely too long. Like 30 minutes to get 2 meals. Meanwhile there were at least 2 employees just standing around inside. Had I not already paid I would have just left. Waiting for half an hour with a screaming baby in the car is miserable. Once I got home and saw the food it was even more ridiculous. Hubby’s sandwich was smashed at the bottom of the bag, the chicken tenders are tiny, the fries are soggy. Will never be eating here again. Absolutely ridiculous.

Dirty. I felt dirty washing my hands there. Cleaned off my own table. Finally, my order was completely messed up. Also….when did they change their iconic fries to the most boring and tasteless fries of my life? Frisco melt was average and the only thing holding me together during my visit. Steak n’shake please…

This is 100 percent the best steak n shake in the area hands down. There are several closer to my work and I will always drive out of my way to these guys. I know this sounds like a super serious review but for a pregnant lady who craves their food it’s always fresh, exactly how I ordered and I can always tell they put extra cherry syrup in my coke when I ask for it. I really really appreciate it. Keep on slaying those burgers.

I like it a lot better now that you order at a kiosk. My biggest complaint of steak n shake before was their terribly slow service. They’ve fixed that now by removing waitresses altogether and just focusing on food. You just order it on the kiosk, take your seat and they call you. It’s quick & efficient now.

3 times, I’ve gone and ordered from their kiosk and the bag’s sat in the kitchen unnoticed for takeout. When I paid for a bottle of Steak n Shake seasoning, they only gave me a small cup’s worth. Although when I came back afterwards they gave me the bottles, no questions asked.

Food was good, when it finally arrived. Only one other dine in customer and it took over 20 minutes to make one burger and fries. Other reason for 3* – no more servers, have to order and pay at unmanned kiosks. Bring back American service. No wonder all the ones down south went out of business.
