The lodge is cozy and we often had the hot tub to ourselves. The lodge is dog friendly with so many great hiking trails right out the door. They have UTV rentals and have a great resturant across the street. We also saw the mountain goats on our way out of the canyon. Our phones did not work unless connected to wifi, which is nice to disconnect.

We had the lunch buffet – the bison stew was amazing, with generous chunks of bison in a delicious broth. They also had bison chili, again very generous with the meat and great flavor. The beef pot roast was moist/ delicious as was the pork.
The dessert buffet was full of incredible choices, it was so hard to choose. I had a chocolate cheesecake that was so good I almost licked the plate!
Tip! Plan on arriving around 11:30am or after 1pm to avoid tour bus rush

My husband and I have made many trips to South Dakota to enjoy fishing at Sylvan Lake. But we especially treasure our time at Custer State Park and the State Game Lodge; but this year we had my sister and her husband with us from Iowa for a week long stay for fishing and attending the Buffalo Round Up. We took them to the Restaurant for Dinner as they were celebrating their 56th Wedding Anniversary and the complimentary bottle of wine the Bar Tender gave my sister was an incredibly nice gesture. Our meals were superb!! And our waiter was outstanding!! Everyone should have the chance to experience this.

It was a great experience visiting this restaurant! Our server is very professional and polite. We ordered buffalo burger and buffalo fillet mignon. Both the order are delicious and would highly recommend the Buffalo fillet mignon. The atmosphere is great and we went in underdressed in shorts and tshirts, but we were still welcomed!

We stumbled on the State Game Lodge in a Google search…we could not have found a better place to stay for the Buffalo Roundup! The staff were fantastic…so friendly, helpful, & knowledgeable. We enjoyed breakfast at the restaurant one morning of our stay & enjoyed the buffet tremendously!

Stayed 3 nights next to game lodge. Bartender was great on 8/22/25 to explain options for food and drinks. Good food but priced as you would expect for a captive clientele. Wedding party Friday and Saturday meant noisy neighbors but just for small segments of time. Seems worth the extra price to stay in such a handy location but Custer is only 15-20 minutes away.

What a beautiful lodge. We sat on the porch with a bottle of wine, and watch the elk and Longhorn sheep graze on the grass. The location is perfect for game viewing ( next to the loop road) and the restuaran twa superb. Try the elk osso bucco

Had a wonderful and memorable dinner at the Lodge. Doc was our waiter, and he made our dinner special by suggesting apps and the entree.. This is the third time we’ve had great food, great service and a great experience at the Game Lodge Restaurant.

Service was very good. Room at Creekside was very nice but dark. Menu is adequate but needs update to meet those wishing for pasta or lighter options e.g. fruit and cheese plate for lunch. Convenient to Custer activities. Our stay was pleasant but not sure it was worth the price.

Lunch at the Game Lodge was delicious and an opportunity to try new dishes. Our favorites were the wild game ravioli, bison ribs and bison chili. They can accommodate large groups.
