Wow! This restaurant was an absolute pleasure, all the way around. It was my wife and I’s first time eating here and after reading the reviews, we had high expectations. After our experience, I must say that Southside Diner met those high expectations and then blew the doors off. If you’re looking for a laid back, belly busting without busting the bank, eating experience. This is the place.

I’ve been there a few times before it’s not really that bad, but it’s kind of in the middle. For starters, there are some things on the menu that are not there, like you know macaroni and cheese. Plus also the bathrooms are not always good. But the good thing is that the service is very good and plus also they make very good food the specials are also good and the ice cream is good too but it’s not really the type of Diner I like so that’s why I rated a three out of five stars.

Pretty sure this food was served to a senior citizen at a rest home, but they died before they could eat it, so they shipped it here and reheated it. Everything had a shade of dried grey to it and comes with crackers for some reason. Classic atmosphere and service was ok.

Diner with decent options. Very fast and friendly service. Lots of comfort food but lighter options like salads still available. Open face roast beef sandwich was great mashed potatoes were really good. Cheddar and broccoli soup wasn’t great. Not bad but definitely not great. Iced tea was strong and tasty.

Food was fine. Service not so much. Waitress disappeared and had forgotten to put in our order. Had to go find another waitress who found ours in the back. When order did come out it was wrong. No offer to adjust the bill in any way.

A rare old fashioned gem. You’ll go back to good old American times with the old school diner feel. Prices are very reasonable in 2022. Hopefully they won’t go up. Food was delicious, generous cake portions.

Update 8-2023: Me and my husband went one day for lunch, also me and my mom has been there recently for lunch. When me and my husband this past week I want usual which was a friend bologna and mashed potatoes with brown gravy. They were out of the Bologna so I ordered a grilled ham and cheese sandwhich. They delivered it rather quickly which I was suprised cause pretty busy compared to any other times Ive ever gone. So I got my meal we had no silverware. The Grilled Cheese with Ham Sandwhich was absolutely fatty and disgusting. It was a huge chunk of ham on a drenched greasy half melted cheese. I took one bite and literally so disappointed and my hands even after one bite was greasy so after about 20 minutes of her running around I said we need silverware, Ketchup and some Napkins. She apologized. Even though she forgot the napkins a second time. I am a pretty understanding and forgiving person but especially due how busy it was. 2 things I just want to make Clear to South Side Diner. Is I would have rather waited awhile for a nice meal than someone bring me out a nasty, disgusting meal where no thought, care or anything was taken into delivering a pretty regular customer that comes in there. Lastly maybe retrain the cooks to deliver customer satisfaction with each meal as well as well as providing quality food. Slopping food together is unacceptable and who does that especially for a good name that you have.

Great food! Greek salad was very good. The dressing was amazing. Any time you are in Mount Vernon, IH I highly recommend eating here. You will not be disappointed.
