Great breakfast spot, generous portions and reasonable prices with super friendly staff. The coffee is always flowing here. I had a combo meal and asked for a substitution and they were very good about it. It’s a busy little spot with maybe 10 tables inside, I saw interested diners not be able to get a table.

This is my favorite breakfast spot in Maine. Or maybe the country. They make the best tuna melt on rye that I’ve ever had, and their haddock chowder and veggie breakfast burritos are excellent. Whenever I have to travel for work, a visit to Southgate is one of the first things on my list upon returning home to celebrate being back in Maine.

Its not a tendy place with modern recipies. Old style breakfast diner feel. Lots of character on the walls. co.fort foods. Small place. prices are reasonable. Gor the genre, it’s typical. But all the other places 8n Batj for breakfast are expensive and a bit trendy.
I ordered Tuna club on wheat. was quite good. Onion rings and coffee. My wife ordered then”inteenatiinal” breakfast combo, and they easily substituted the ham for bacon upon her request. Bacon was perfectly crisp. Eggs and French toast were good. What you would expect. Service and atmosphere is simple. typical funny signs and history on the walls. they do have some gluten free options despite not being a trendy place.
Parking is either free street or free parking lot in back of rhe main drag. The restaurant is located on a steep hill.

We walked right in and sat down, there wasn’t a long wait for those that came in after us (20 min or so). The atmosphere was nice, the staff was friendly and efficient. I’d been there once before, for a to-go lunch order (also a great experience) but had not had breakfast. I had a special, eggs benedict with cheddar cheese, sausage, english muffin, and home fries. The food was perfect, the coffee flowed continuously, and I found the prices to be reasonable. I will definitely be back. My friend had the meat lover’s omelet, toast, and home fries. She said that it was very good, and that she would revisit as well.

Second time here! This is an excellent place to get breakfast. Corned beef hash is really good, especially with eggs and home fries. So hearty on a drab chilly morning.
Service is always great. They keep things moving and are quite nice, even though it’s always busy and a little hectic. They are attentive without being helicopters.
The atmosphere feels like a cozy diner in your hometown. It’s very toasty, so keep that in mind when you visit.

What a charming and friendly family restaurant. The food was delicious. The dining area was cozy with a selection of booths, tables and two little corner nooks. Between the four of us we tried their veggie omelets, their biscuits and gravy, and eggs and bacon. There was not one complaint but rather smiles and empty plates. I highly recommend you try their rye bread and their free cookies if they have them!! Thank you for your hospitality.

Not the same vibe as it used to be, but I’m so happy to see them still thriving. I had the 2 egg, homemade corned beef hash special. It was pretty dry, but flavor was good. The homefries were supposed to have onions in them, but they were hard to find. My friend had the pancakes and those were delicious! The staff are always awesome and welcoming.

This is a gem of a spot. We ate there twice, breakfast and lunch, both times were phenomenal. The Maine blueberry pancakes had a great flavor with lots of blueberries. The regular pancake was super thick and fluffy. The sausage was topnotch in flavor and cooked to perfection, No drying out or hardness to them. And the toast variety is great; white, wheat, rye, and raisin. They all seem bakery made. The raisin was great. For lunch the Monte Cristo sandwich was balanced nicely with sweet and savory. Lots of meat. The Reuben was the best we’ve ever had. The main difference, it did not get soggy. They drained the sauerkraut and put the cheese as a buffer for the bread leaving a nice crisp sandwich throughout your whole meal. This is a big win for me. The Smash Burger was ordered by a lot who came in and for good reason. Think 5 Guys burgers taken up a notch. The flavor is really good and not greasy. They are opened until 1pm so make sure to get there before then.

Its a cute and comfortable little breakfast nook of a place. My breakfast was average though. Ham and Cheese omelette was dry and the home fries had been deep fried (a cardinal sin in my book). The best thing was that I found the Italian Pastry bakery next door.
