ABOUT SOUND BY THE SEA Created in 2023, Sound by the Sea is a listening bar and Mediterranean restaurant in Oceanside, California. A welcoming place that mixes world flavors and cocktails with eclectic music finely curated by local and regional talent. It unveils an unmatched audio experience combining the latest digital technology and a unique vintage sound system featuring 1975 JBL 4350 speakers. The food menu is fabulous!!! The flatbread and empanadas are finger licken’ good! They have refreshing specialty teas . The Italian sodas are by far the best you’ll ever try. The servers are great at making the most delicious mixed drinks!The atmosphere is so dreamy and retro. Low lighting adds to intimate conversations. The patio is the perfect spot on hot summer nights. It’s easy to find a new friend as the vibe is conducive for relationships. Sometimes they have live DJ’s and live music. The vibe is chill and sometimes poppin’. If you’re feeling romantic, the beach is just a stroll away. You can spend hours here!! The service is outstanding!!! Late hours makes this place a hot spot in Oceanside. Put this place on your bucket list and check it off as soon as you can. Sound by the Sea will be your favorite happy place!

This place is so great! Super homie vibes, everyone there treats you like an old friend! The atmosphere is very warm/friendly, while also vibey and aesthetic. The sound is wonderful, and it’s so cool that there are people spinning live vinyl! The food and drinks are thoughtfully curated, everything was delicious! We’ll definitely be back again!

Love the inviting vibes! Super cozy and warm energy at Sound by the Sea. The chicken soup is one of the most unique soups that has ever touched my taste buds. It has a curry essence with a lovely ginger tang. Deliziosa! Warmed my soul! Thank you Dom and Beau Selector for providing such an amazing experience. The three hour Kruder & Dorfmeister/Tosca/Peace Orchestra was ear candy!

Cool place, maybe cool ambiance but the private party was so loud it ruined the vibe. I wouldn’t go again if there is a private party inside. Service was poor, probably because of the private party.
We arrived for our reservation at 745. We had three waiters ask us for an order in the first ten minutes, great service. We ordered drinks and then added in a truffle popcorn shortly after. Our drinks came in an acceptable amount of time. The third in our party showed up about 805. A server finally came to get her drink order 10-15 minutes after she sat. Then we waited for popcorn and her drink. The popcorn arrived thirty minutes after ordering it. Thirty minutes after the drink order I finally went to the bar to ask if they were making the drink, waitress said not yet. I kindly asked her to cancel the drink and please check us out. The staff didn’t apply the reservation price to the bill like they state in the reservation booking, but they did refund me the $15 afterwards.
I’ll give this place another chance, but they should maybe increase staff if they’re going to remain open during a private event. The bar was covered in dirty glasses because the bartenders were very busy.

Wonderful staff and a truly cozy spot to listen to music and munch.
They have a DJ on deck and will play music almost exclusively from vinyl [records]. The DJs will usually have a specified set list, but on days when they have a “general DJ” you can bring in your own records from home and request a track [BRING ONLY THE BEST OF SHAPE RECORDS]

After driving by for a year I finally peeked my head in and checked it out, it wasn’t what I expected at all….. it’s a really cool place, seems like a great hang and very cool music, and a good upscale but subtle bar. Trendy, but not trendy. The focus seems on atmosphere, good vibes and mostly…. Music

I visited Sound by the Sea last week. The food and drinks were good, and the music was amazing.
However, my experience was ruined when I ordered dessert — a slice of cake and a latte. Halfway through enjoying it, I got up briefly to use the restroom. When I returned just a minute later, both my cake and latte had been cleared away, even though there was half a cake and 3/4 of my latte still on the table.
When I mentioned this to the server at checkout, his only response was, “Was the half you ate at least good?” He then explained that the staff is always quick to clear tables, as if that justified the mistake. I was not aware that I needed to notify staff before using the restroom.
After some back and forth, he offered to make me another latte, but I was short on time and the restaurant was busy. At no point was I offered a refund or even a partial refund for my dessert.
Overall, this left me with a very negative impression. Despite the good food and atmosphere, the poor handling of the situation and lack of accountability made for a horrible experience.

Absolutely had a wonderful time soaking in the ambiance of this cozy, relaxed bistro bar, where the music really sets the tone. The DJ, positioned right in the heart of the space, along with a pair of impressive JBL speakers, ensures that your evening kicks off on the right note (pun intended). The venue itself pays a beautiful tribute to mid-century design, having been thoughtfully designed and renovated. Their outdoor patio is a delightful touch. I’d also suggest trying their Soju cocktails or exploring their selection of European beers to enhance your experience.

What’s not to love! Cozy, friendly atmosphere with great food and drinks. The outdoor patio is a super comfy spot to hang with friends while inside pays homage to all things music. The owner Dom is a true music aficionado who moved to Oceanside from Belgium to share the concept of a listening bar. It’s hard to describe the quality of the sound, so do yourself a favor and just go listen and be amazed!
