Hard to believe that Sotto Sotto opened such a long time ago – I remember when it did around 15 years ago, there was a constant three month wait for a reservation, and hasn’t changed too much, as we waited six weeks for a reservation. Between this and the high rating, I had somewhat high expectations.
We went for dinner, and in the end, it was fine. The service was the real stand out – definitely outpacing the food. The starter of sausage ragu and polenta was ok, a bit under seasoned. The main of swordfish was much better, simple and tasty. The tiramisu for dessert was also nice, although not the best I’ve had in Bath.
I think my main issue is that the approach of the food was traditional Italian with a bit of a modern twist, but that modern twist seems to be one from 10 years ago, so it feels dated. I’d almost prefer for the whole approach to be a little bit more traditional, especially as some of the longer running traditional Italian restaurants in Bath have shut.
If I could go to Sotto Sotto at a whim, I probably would go again. But it doesn’t feel worth the wait.

Recommend by a friend and didn’t disappoint. We arrived without a reservation on a busy Saturday evening and was told that they could fit us in with a 45 minute wait, we stayed for a drink and our table was ready in 20 minutes so we were very happy.
The food, atmosphere and service was perfect, especially our server Lucky who was observant and lovely.
The was classic Italian and fresh, would 100% recommend to anyone living or visiting Bath.

I went to Sotto Sotto in Bath for my birthday and had such a lovely experience. They didn’t have the reservation time I wanted at first, but they replied to my message very quickly and called me when a cancellation came up so they could adjust my booking. When we arrived, they made the night feel extra special with a sweet birthday note and a complimentary shot. The food was delicious, and the service was amazing. Our waiter, Lucky, was so kind, friendly, and welcoming, he genuinely made the evening even better.
Such a nice memory, and they made my birthday night feel really special. I would definitely recommend Sotto Sotto.

We had a fabulous meal celebrating my besties 60th birthday. Very attentive service, great food in a tucked away setting in the hearts of Bath. Very busy, but we weren’t rushed. You need to book to secure your table unless you like to eat very late. The complimentary lychee liquor was a very nice tasty surprise. I’ll definitely book here when I next visit Bath

We had a really lovely experience here. The food was amazing we ordered the pasta and the steak, and both were absolutely delicious.
Our waiter, Lucky, was especially kind and attentive, which made the whole dinner even more enjoyable.

Last night to finish off our evening we popped to Sotto Sotto for a cocktail. The ambience was good and building interesting as you were underneath the street in what appeared to be an old cellar.
The 3 of us had different cocktails and they were beautiful presented and very tasty. The server was attentive and it was perfect to finish off our night.

What an exceptional restaurant!
Great food, great place and great staff!
Our party had three courses. Everything tasted exceptional and was well presented. There was one issue, but this was dealt with promptly and to our complete satisfaction.
Do not be put off by the exterior (it’s next to building works, and downstairs). The overall experience is a must, and can’t recommend it high enough.
