Valentine’s Prix Fixe: A Culinary Cry for Help

Nothing says romance like a $100+ commitment to regret.

Course 1: Shrimp Cocktail
Because when I think “intimate evening,” I think cold shrimp and ketchup-adjacent sauce.
Or lobster bisque with tomato tart — bold move serving tomatoes in two emotional support formats.

Very Paris. If Paris was inside a Marriott conference room.

Course 2: Arugula Salad
Ah yes. Spicy lawn clippings with cranberries.
Bonjour, bagged lettuce.

Main Course: Ravioli, Short Rib & Duck
The duck had clearly done something wrong in a past life.
It was cooked with the intensity of unresolved anger.
Texture? Brick with a hint of regret.

The short rib arrived with four broccoli florets — FOUR.
Not five. Not a generous handful.
Four disciplined soldiers of disappointment.

Dessert:
Chocolate mousse and cheesecake.
Arrived 30 minutes later.
Nothing says passion like watching your love slowly metabolize into impatience.

Atmosphere Bonus:
Wait staff in transparent baby doll dresses.
Because when I’m carving into structural duck, I want to feel like I’m in a Valentine’s-themed fever dream

Great place for dating. From the point of view of a home chef, their good quality surprised me.

Out of the things we ordered, especially recommend onion soup (5/5) & honey mustard salmon (best salmon I’ve ever had 5/5). Escargot (4.5/5), steak fries (4/5), and crème brûlée (4.5/5) are also very good, well worth the price.

I recently went to Sophie’s Bistro for Brunch and they did not disappoint! A bonus is the friendly atmosphere (very adult like), very clean tables and super kind Team! Not to mention, the food was phenomenal, I will definitely be back!

This place is a little fancy but not too fancy. The food is awesome authentic French food, but also everything else for your non adventurous eaters. Friendly service, with managers giving that personal touch. I went for my birthday and there was a surprise dessert with a candle. It’s unassuming in an area you wouldn’t think would have a restraunt of this caliber. Steaks are great fish and seafood also awesome.

Lovely little bistro! Amazing food, drinks, and service. My party was having such a great time that they stayed open an extra half an hour for us!

If you like French food, this one is pretty much the only good place in this region for it. We had dinner here on a Saturday night. It was 5:30 ish when we arrived and was luckily seated. The restaurant got quite busy as we finish eating, around 6:30-ish. The portion was very generous, from app, soup to entrees and desserts. For me, the duck breasts could be cooked just a bit longer, and I will ask next time, but since it was the first time, I asked for just chef’s recommendation. The flavor was very nice, a good balance of sweet, sour, and salt. The seafood pasta was extremely good. Every ingredient was fresh and perfectly cooked. We did not drink, but it looked like they have a good wine selection. They also have a special menu for Sunday brunch. We will come back for sure.

The atmosphere and our server were great. The drinks had plenty of alcohol. The fondue was delicious. The entreés were good, but felt like it was missing some seasoning. Overall, a good experience!

Came for Valentine’s Day dinner.

A big plus was that they posted their prix fixe menu on their website several weeks in advance. It looked good and the price was reasonable.

Service was good, restaurant/decor was nice, but the food mostly wasn’t. To be clear, the food arrived hot, in a reasonable amount of time, and was edible; just most of it didn’t have much flavor or wasn’t what I was expecting for the price.

– Appetizer: Lobster Bisque was thin and watery. The taste wasn’t bad, but it had the consistency of a lobster *broth*, not a bisque. It also didn’t have much lobster in it. I crushed up some table bread and mixed it in. That thickened it/made it better.

– Salad: My date said it was fine. I went in knowing I was either going to skip it or just power through it (I don’t really like Arugula).

– Entree: The duck was a bit overcooked and difficult to eat (tough). It also didn’t have much flavor. The polenta was fine. The brussel sprouts were pretty bad. They tasted like…nothing…as if they’d been boiled and just dumped into the polenta unseasoned (they actually bit wet inside). The menu said there was “crispy lardons” with them, but I didn’t taste or see them.

– Dessert: Really good. Both desserts (mousse and cheesecake) were tasty and a big surprise.

– Cocktails: Very nice. Really enjoyed. My date and I had a couple.

Based on the positive reviews, I’m wondering if they just had an off night. Or maybe the Ravioli and Short Ribs were the way to go (the other two items on the menu that I was debating on).

I might give them another try on a non-holiday, but overall this was a bit off a disappointment.

Giving it two stars since the drinks and dessert was good.

It’s been too long since we were last at Sophie’s Bistro, and from the first few minutes I’m reminded of how welcoming the place is. The owner, Peter, greets us like old friends. My wife and I enjoy a cocktail at the bar, expertly made by Matt as we wait for the rest of our party. Once seated, we order up, never rushed. As for the food, to me it’s French comfort food, nothing pretentious, just well prepared and delicious. We order the escargots, and mussels in white wine sauce to share. Dipping the perfect bread in the escargots garlic and oil, and the mussels white wine sauce is the best. Could feast on that alone. For dinner, our friends each order the pan seared salmon, my wife had the pork loin, all perfectly cooked. Any opportunity for duck, and I go for it with a glass of cabernet and was not disappointed. The service was excellent throughout. Enjoyable. Cheers!

Charming, old-school French bistro with a loyal local following—and for good reason. We ordered the escargots, moules marinières, steak au poivre, and cheesecake. The bread and butter to start was surprisingly excellent. Escargots were classic and tender, though could use a touch more seasoning. The mussels had a clean flavor but I wished the broth was richer and creamier. The steak was much more substantial than it looked, cooked well, and paired beautifully with the potato gratin. Cheesecake was dense and creamy, though slightly too salty for my taste. Cozy, lively atmosphere with vintage décor and friendly regulars—we met a couple who’ve been coming for years and still adore it.
