Emerging in the 1980s, this category of cooking reshaped menus and marked a shift in American dining across the country by introducing international influences, seasonal ingredients, and chef-driven creativity to the American landscape. At its core, it honors regional food heritage while continually reinventing itself with new techniques and cultural perspectives.
Located on Park Avenue in the heart of Rutherford, my partner, our friends, and I determined to start 2026 for brunch as first-timers. The reservation was easily made by calling the restaurant.
Upon arrival at Sonoma Bistro, we were greeted by the staff and got a table by the back wall decorated for the holidays, evoking a festive, warm, casual, and inviting vibe with music playing throughout.
For some of us as a starter, we decided on the beef empanadas. As a main meal, we opted for Steak Sandwich, Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict, Veggie Omelette, My Big Breakfast, and Bistro Omelette. Washed down a Hugo Spritz for toasting to the New Year.
Each dish felt like a work of art, as it was beautifully presented, bursting with flavor, and deliciously tasty. The chef focused on sourcing local, seasonal ingredients to ensure freshness. Our service was attentive and super friendly. Our server was George. The price was reasonable.

Ever since discovering this place, I have always had a good experience. This time we decided to celebrate a birthday and Pedro was super accommodating, approachable, and friendly! This place always have good vibes and delicious food. We have always returned to this location at different times and days of the week, and we have never been disappointed!

My husband and I wanted to venture out and try a new place for breakfast. We saw the reviews and pictures and thought this would be a great spot. Thank goodness for reviews, this place did not disappoint. The coffee was spot on and perfect. The waitress was extremely kind and sweet. The food was amazing. I promised my girls to bring them here next time and I think this will be a spot that they would want to repeat with often. I highly recommend the house fries!

Absolutely incredible restaurant! I stopped by Sonoma Bistro around 10:30 AM, and what a way to start the day. The servers were extremely attentive, and the food was beyond amazing — honestly, everything on the menu sounds incredible.
I had the Mexican Chicken Tinga Empanadas and a Steak Sandwich — that sauce is unbeatable, and the bread was perfectly crisp yet soft inside. My guest ordered the Guava Cream Cheese Croissant French Toast, which I happily helped finish (no food goes to waste here!).
I also tried a cocktail called the Garden City — not only was it delicious, but the presentation was out of this world. You can see in the photos I’ve attached how much detail they put into everything.
From the food to the drinks to the service, Sonoma Bistro delivers excellence all around. I can’t wait to go back — a true Rutherford gem!
