When the ice cream finally arrived, it was already melted. That was my first red flag. I decided to taste it before leaving, and it was spoiled. Spoiled ice cream means their machines are not being cleaned and maintained properly, which is disgusting and dangerous for customers.
I pressed the red button immediately to report it, and the same girl came back out. Her attitude was dismissive and unprofessional from the start. There was no apology, no accountability, nothing. She shrugged it off and said, “I can remake it.” Why would I want another ice cream from a machine that is clearly filthy and producing spoiled product? I told her no, because I know what Sonic ice cream tastes like and I also know exactly what spoiled milk tastes like. She did not care. Her only response was, “do you want a refund?”
At that point I told her directly that they are not cleaning their ice cream machine and it is nasty. Her response was to say, “let me see your receipt, I’ll have to refund the whole order and my manager isn’t here,” then walk away with the ice cream. Again, no apology, no concern, no ownership of the fact that they just served spoiled food.
By this point my stomach was already hurting from just one bite. That alone should terrify any customer because spoiled dairy can cause real health problems. She came back with cash and the receipt, saying it had to be refunded that way because she “already cashed it out.” Then she demanded the slushie back. I gladly handed it over because at this point, between the long wait, the spoiled ice cream, and the horrible customer service, I had no interest in consuming anything else from that location.
This is not just poor service, this is a complete failure in food safety, management, and customer care. It is unacceptable and it is dangerous. Serving spoiled ice cream shows that they are not following basic cleanliness standards. Allowing employees to handle the situation with zero professionalism, zero accountability, and zero apology shows that the staff is either poorly trained or simply does not care. And the fact that the entire situation was brushed off with a half-hearted refund is proof that the management at this location has no control over their operation.
I will never return to this Sonic and I strongly warn anyone else against eating here. If they are comfortable serving spoiled ice cream, who knows what else in that kitchen is not being cleaned or maintained properly. The health department needs to investigate this location immediately before someone gets seriously sick.
Avoid this place at all costs. It is filthy, unprofessional, and unsafe.
Customer service was courteous, kind, and enjoyable. I had to wait a minute, but I didn’t mind because we were made aware of the reason. The young lady was very pleasant and I appreciated her.
The food was great and the area was clean. The wait was still MUCH shorter than the old Sonic on Carterhill Rd.
The name on our ticket says Laìla, so THANK YOU, LAILA!
