If you want a truly satisfying home cooked breakfast go to the Soda Chef on North Street in Pittsfield. It may not look like much from the outside, but this is an authentically retro old school diner with bar stools at the counter and also a few tables available for sitting at. All of the food is freshly prepared to order by George. The eggs were amazingly fresh and so tasty! Their home fries can be made with or without onions, as you prefer, and I opted for the onions. These were definitely the BEST home fries I’ve ever eaten at a restaurant. I also ordered bacon, which they cooked to order. Asking if I wanted it soft, medium, crispy or extra crispy. My husband had the sausage which was also delicious. Patty waited on us and she was so nice and really attentive to us. We haven’t had a chance to have lunch there, but I have no doubt it will be just as satisfying!

Terrible environment, the place looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in weeks. The staff was very rude about the cash only policy, even though they only mentioned it when I arrived in to pick up my order and pay with card. They told me to go walk to an ATM that was 10 minutes away. I had to call twice in order to even place my order. Will not order from here EVER again!!

We really enjoyed the unchanged old-school vibe here. Food was nicely priced and while not “gourmet” was a good way to start the day. Staff were friendly and you can see they know the regulars well. This was a great find as an out-of-towner.
