GOOD: Food quality, service and atmosphere
BAD: Price heavy on sides and starters
I loved my experience at Smuggler’s Wharf. The food was delicious, the service fast and friendly and the location is pristine. The bay views make the already cozy interior even better.
It loses a star because they really put the squeeze on when it comes to simple things like french fries. Fries are cheap to make and a customer favorite. Your options are 9.00 starter or additional 5.00 when you pay for a sandwich – hard pass. It worked out because the potato salad they offer free is bonkers good. The other thing I didn’t like is they charge 9 for a cup (ouch) then 10 for a bowl of soup. I ordered the bowl – very tiny little thing.
My two cents, get a nice glass of wine (if that’s your jam) and a quality entree. Iam going back for the carbonara very soon.

An Erie staple. Right on the bay with a great atmosphere and solid tradition. The service was quick and attentive and the food was well prepared. I had the Blackened Scar (salmon esque fish) which was delightful.
Definitely worth a visit even just for the location.

10/3/25: We were going to eat elsewhere, but Smuggler’s Wharf caught our eye! So unique looking! I loved all the ivy growing all over the building and terrace. We weren’t disappointed with this restaurant. The hostess seated us immediately. Our waitress, Shel, was pleasant and professional. Great selections on the menu and so many gluten free options! I ordered the Caribbean Breeze salad with Smoked Salmon added ( very delicious and such a light meal!) and my husband got the All American Burger (a little messy but tasted good) and the Chocolate Chocolate Seduction (cake) for dessert (rich flavor!) We were so happy to find this beautiful restaurant! Definitely recommend.

I’ve been traveling to Erie, PA since Chase was a little kid. We loved going to Splash Lagoon & the monster truck shows there. Smugglers’ Wharf is located in the Bayfront area and I’ve probably walked past it 200 times, but we’ve never stopped. That all changed, last weekend…
We traveled to Erie for a quick weekend with some friends and one suggested that we stop in, so we did and it was an amazing experience!
The ambience is second to none and the vine-covered pergola was perfect on a sunny September afternoon. The leaves blocked the direct sun to keep the temp down, while the open patio setting allowed for a great view and equally enjoyable bay breezes. ️
The service was polite and professional, but also very personable. The host made sure to get us a table with a nice view, while our server was very attentive but not bothersome.
Drinks were beach themed and tasty, but I will say mine didn’t seem very strong? That could be a result of the ciders I’d had earlier in the day ♂️
Food was served without delay and as ordered. I have only had lobster rolls in ocean towns and this one stood its own against those. A little over seasoned for my taste and I could’ve done without the celery, which gave it a chicken salad feel. But the lobster was chunky and flavorful and the New England style roll was great! Melissa ordered the coconut shrimp, which had a beautiful presentation. I didn’t taste hers because coconut shrimp ain’t my thing but she liked it lol.
The prices were very fair for the portions, service and the gorgeous setting. $19 for the shrimp and $24 for my lobster roll. I’m really glad that our friends picked this spot for our Sunday afternoon lunch and have every intention of stopping back for a future visit!

It was ok. I’ve read so many mixed reviews that I wasn’t sure what to expect. Personally I didn’t care for the decor inside. I wanted to eat outside but it was too chilly. Overall the service was good. But I ordered the scallops and I was disappointed. Very bland. My husbands chicken was tasty. I do think that the place is overpriced. It was also very noisy. Not their fault, just luck of the draw that we went when there were two large groups of people near us. It’s also quite small inside so we didn’t have the option to switch our table.

Cozy bayfront restaurant! Lunchtime specials were 50%off and the food was delicious! Ample choices on the menu. Fast, friendly service.
Great view of the frozen bay, with cozy fireplace warming me.
Dining room was crowded, but a sign of its popularity.

Great night out with the family. The place gets a little crowded at sunset, but for good reason, it’s a great place to be near the water watching the sunset. I image it would be a very romantic place to take a date. The food is up scale but not overly priced high, dinners are around $30, sandwichs around $20. The menu consisted of mainly seafood but I did notice the had steak and burgers if that is your preference. I would suggest a cup of the New England Clam Chowder and definitely go for a Crab Cake or catch of the day.

Smugglers’ Wharf is a gem. Located in the heart of Erie’s bayfront with lake views, Smugglers’ Wharf is a laid back, seafood lovers, escape.
When we visited, we tried the famed coconut shrimp, which were divine. My Mom had a heaping bowl of she crab bisque which was delicious! I tried perch here for the first time. It was beer battered golden brown and the fish itself was buttery and full of flavor. My Mom had a lobster roll. Which she really enjoyed. The house made potato salad was a tasty addition to our meals.
I’d love to go back here! Service was great.

Today I got the crab cakes, cole slaw and veggies of the day. Best crab cakes I’ve had in a long long time. REAL crab.
