This is by far one of the best pizzas in Toronto, period. Not just in the Detroit category but overall. The pizza looks thick but it is SO light. It doesn’t feel like you’re eating pizza! So delicious. We drive all the way from Ajax to eat it. One pizza could be good for two people. We order 2 between me and my husband and have 3 slices leftover to take home which reheat beautifully in the oven.

Slowhand Sourdough Pizza is incredible. The crust alone is worth the visit — perfectly airy with crispy edges, and the toppings are bold and delicious. You can really taste the care that goes into the pizza.

Only minor issue: no high chairs available for kids, which would make it even more family-friendly. Still a must-try pizza spot and one I’ll gladly return to.

Visited recently to try one of their limited collaborations with Cherry St. BBQ. Slowhand Sourdough Pizza is another local pizza restaurant in the Leslieville area, best known for their pizza being a sourdough pizza crust. The pizza itself is similar to a square pan deep dish pizza (essentially a Detroit-style pizza) except the size is made such that every slice is a corner slice. All of their pizzas are sold as a whole, and every pizza is made fresh to order.

Their War Pigs pizza which was a special collaboration with Cherry St. BBQ, is a pulled pork pizza with barbecue sauce, pickled jalapeños and red onions topped with cilantro. It essentially resembled what the pulled pork meal is like at Cherry St. BBQ, except in pizza form. There was a good amount of pulled pork within the pizza, and the use of barbecue sauce instead of marinara/tomato sauce helped bring up the barbecue taste and flavour. Portion size was good for one, and is easily shareable as the pizza is four Square slices.

Overall, this is another recommended pizza spot in the Leslieville area. They also offer online ordering which is a seamless process and can set up a pickup time. Service was very friendly, and the restaurant has a mix of indoor and outdoor seating.

SLOWHAND Sourdough Pizza is easily one of my favourite pizza joints in East Toronto. They specialize in Detroit-style pizza — thick, doughy, and full of Toronto charm. The restaurant has dine-in options and a dog-friendly patio, which is a nice touch.

I ordered the classic pepperoni pizza — a generous serving of cupping pepperoni topped with oregano and fresh basil. The sauce is excellent, but the real standout is the crust. It has a crispy, cheesy edge that’s perfectly caramelized and packed with flavor. I also tried the garlic dipping sauce, which was great, but honestly not necessary — the crust is that good.

The pizzas are around $25 and are very filling, even if they look small at first. The team was friendly, and the service was quick. They do sell out fast, so it’s best to order in advance.

A great spot for anyone looking for high-quality, Detroit-style pizza done right.

Trust the Hype – The Sourdough is Phenomenal!

Slowhand has been on my “must-try” list for a while, and after seeing dozens of glowing reviews, I finally pulled the trigger. I’m so glad I did.

The foundation of this pizza is the dough: it’s fluffy, light, and features those perfect crispy edges that only a sourdough base can achieve. We tried two pies: the Pineapple Express and the Peter Piper.

While the Pineapple Express was delicious, the Peter Piper was the absolute star of the show. The combination of pepperoni, hot honey, and whipped ricotta was out of this world—I’m salivating just thinking about it again!

The service was standard and did the job. If you’re a fan of high-quality crust and inventive toppings, this is a solid recommendation.

Nice light dough, crisp greasy bottom, delicate wall of cheese around the edges, toppings were fine. There wasn’t enough sauce for my liking, it felt more like cheese bread with pizza toppings and a barely present smear of tomato sauce on it, so it felt a little off – could just be one off or the specific pizzas we got though.

The pizza i got was the pineapple, mushroom, and ricotta cheese pizza which were all really good

What a great find for some delicious pizzas! I tried their Double Trouble with Beef Pepperoni and it was really tasty. The crust had the perfect balance of crisp and fluff. The pizza was flavourful, though a bit on the salty side- I would’ve enjoyed it more if it was less salty. The dine-in space is great, with a summer patio as well. Staff is friendly and service is quick. I’d give it another try for a better experience. Definitely worth checking out.

Worth a trip. It’s really good deep dish pizza without feeling overly greasy after eating it. The sourdough base is a standout. It gives a great texture. We ordered the standard cheese. It was piping hot and delicious. It was cool to watch them take the pizzas out of the oven with special tongs and a spatula to get the pizza out of the dish. We will be back for sure.

We tried three different Detroit-style pizzas here and honestly every single one was a hit. The crust was super light and airy, with that crispy edge that makes this style so good, and the toppings were flavorful without being overwhelming. You leave full but not weighed down, which is rare for pizza

Only downside was that the price felt a little steep. Our total came to about $90 after tax for the three variations. Still, the taste and quality were absolutely there. Definitely worth checking out if you’re craving Detroit-style done right!
