The Don pork belly is out of this world good. It was cooked to perfection and the wife’s favorite dish. The bok choy served on the plate was tender and a nice bonus.
The star of the show for me was the Crispy Chicken from the classic Sichuan side of the menu. Talk about a flavor punch! The chicken was moist and fried the right way. The spice levels were just right and it might actually be my favorite Chinese dish ever.
The staff was very friendly and do a great job at making sure the experience matches the food.
We ordered way too much food, but that’s what you are supposed to do if you want leftovers for home.
Food came out relatively quick I have to give them that. We stayed at a nearby hotel within 10 mins, we didn’t think the drive of the 10 mins would degrade the food. The lo mei with chicken was full of sauce and they used the flat noodles like you would eat in a soup noodle. String beans are alright however we usually have this dish with minced pork but it did not come with it. Salt and pepper fish were soggy, batter was too thick and oily. Mongolian beef were salty and oily as well, very few pieces of beef bunch of onions. Sweet and sour was just bad, we took a sip and we had to throw it away. Price is not bad average dishes are 15-20
Not sure how this place has 2000 plus reviews on Google with a 4.5 overall. Will not return.
The Szechuan salt and pepper shrimp were alright — they were dry and greasy, like they’d been sitting out. The pork fried rice was overly greasy, and the pork had an off, old taste, like it had been rushed out after sitting in the fridge. I also never received the cucumber side I ordered.
On top of that, they charge $0.25 per sauce packet. I paid for one soy sauce and one duck sauce and didn’t receive either.
The restaurant was empty when I picked up, so there’s really no excuse for getting such a simple order wrong — especially at this price point. I won’t be ordering from here again. Completely disappointing.
The dong po pork belly I got to go. When I got to my hotel to open it up, it looked like creme brûlée. It was sweet, tangy, savory, rich, and I enjoyed picking the meat from in between my teeth. I plan to go back and try their other offerings of pork belly.
Servings were huge so next time, as a solo diner, I’d just stick with an appetizer and a pork belly dish.

Update: second visit
Ordered the chicken crispy dumplings and dumplings in chili oil. Unfortunately both lacked flavor this time around. Seemed to have no seasonings in the filling so I will skip those next time.
My waiter was very cold and impersonal. No biggie if you like to be left alone while dining.
Best was the Chuan Sichuan pork belly. Phenomenal. Last time (and first time trying pork belly) I had the Don pork belly which was very sweet and not what i was expecting, but still delicious. I like the Sichuan pork belly much better as it was savory and just….wow.
Also ordered the garlicky napa cabbage with rice. And it was just that: very garlicky (which I love) and fragrant rice perfectly cooked.
The space is small so I would get things to-go.
My favorite dishes include:
The Twice Cooked Pork Belly (rich but also full of umami/ aromatics/ not heavy compared to other belly dishes), Crispy Spicy Savory Fish (smoky floral chilis and Sichuan peppercorn/ garlic/ ginger/ and scallion) that’s absolutely addictive, Sweet Zingy Spicy Eggplant (perfectly cooked purple eggplant with a balance of sweet and tart flavors balanced with ginger and chilis), Gailan also known as Chinese Broccoli (a simple but flavorful and healthy leafy green with tender and crunchy textures that balance the richer/ spicier items on the menu) and the Cucumber Salad which I always pair with the Crunchy Spicy Sweet Peanuts for a cool down and fresh textural contrast / pre dinner nibble.
They also cater to a classic Chinese American (guilty pleasure) menu with dishes like Orange Chicken, Kung Pao, Fried Rice, and Crispy Dumplings and Spring Rolls. These dishes are relatable, affordable and still have more depth of flavor and concentration on quality compared to other local Chinese American eateries.
On top of all of this- Sichuan House is BYOB and always welcomes special parties, events and simply a good time.
There is a reason this seemingly small neighborhood restaurant has lasted for 10 yrs and has gained a following with the most top chefs and foodies of our city.
I can’t wait for the weather to get a little colder so I can bring my favorite wine, and a gaggle of friends to have a feast and enjoy the Swimming in Poached Spice dish which is a generous and dynamic stew of chilis, protein, fresh vegetables, and a deep developed broth.
Recently they have invested in beautifying the space as well which makes for a fun atmosphere with great service.
I don’t give 5 stars a lot but this place has better food than most of the restaurants downtown and up north. This is the type of food you find in Houston or New York.
