Very fresh selections of meat, seafood, and vegetables. The house pork broth is perfect with everything. One of my friends from Taiwan said this is very similar to what hotpot is like in Taiwan (my family is from Taiwan, so I’m always looking for authentic Taiwan food). Overall a great experience, would love to come visit again!

Came here last night as we made our way through Allston and every other hot pot pace have an insane line. You order a main course and it comes with assorted vegetables. We ordered two broths, unsure if you can order more than 2. Everyone LOVED the Chinese Schezuan Spicy broth although the Tonkatsu was also delicious. We got a mix of red meat, chicken and seafood. Honestly we would pass on the seafood next time but everything else was great. I do think I prefer a hot pot restaurant where I can choose the ingredients buffet style though.

Shabu chain restaurant. They have variety of soup including spicy ones. They also have variety of drink too which are good.

I think that set beef or other set are good and reasonable price. But the A5 beef and pork et al can be very expensive though.

Service was disappointing. We experienced long waits, especially when we needed more soup base. As for the food, the beef is a better choice than the lamb, and we felt the portions were smaller than expected.

The ingredients at this restaurant are incredibly fresh, and the combinations are well thought out. Each set menu is carefully curated to provide a balanced and flavorful dining experience. Every time I choose a set, I can feel the effort the restaurant puts into crafting harmonious pairings, making the overall experience truly enjoyable. Both in taste and presentation, their professionalism and attention to detail really shine through—it’s a highly satisfying culinary experience!

the food wasn’t bad at Shabu-Zen. i did not realize they had parking in back so i parked a few blocks away :(. i think as Shabu-Shabu goes it was good but not great. no choices in sauces just what they give you.

I recently went to Shabu Zen for my birthday, everyone was a big fan. The food came out quick and the menu was very diverse and unique. This is one of the best hot pot restaurants in the Allston area, highly recommend!

My friends and I (3 girls) got the Tonkotsu and Chinese Spicy Sichuan for our broths to share. The sichuan was not overly spicy and the tonkotsu was nice for a cold day. We started with 2 plates of meat which comes with assorted vegetables and noodles. I thought the romaine lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, broccoli was a little random (?) in the mix. We also ordered some other sides like mushrooms, tofu, fish cake, pumpkin, and taro. We ended up ordering another round of meat plus some other sides.

Total ended being around $200 with tip which is pretty pricey in comparison to other hot pot places nearby esp since selection is smaller and the lack of a sauce bar. That being said service was good and the food tasted clean.

We came in hoping for a memorable first experience, but it was forgettable for all the wrong reasons. The staff seemed to have no time to explain the menu, and our server essentially disappeared after the initial order. We never got drink refills or even the chance to order more food. To top it off, the portions even for the jumbo plates were surprisingly small for the price. Definitely didn’t feel like a good value for the money..

AVOID AT ALL COSTS this place isn’t worth it at all – a ‘jumbo’ plate just gives you a measly portion of meat (picture attached) and way too many vegetables. Went with 2 others and the total bill was $175. None of us feel full
