Finally! A REAL authentic Mexican…in Kent, Ohio no less! As someone who has lived in San Diego, I’ve missed the real thing! Delicious homemade salsa, real chihuahua cheese with chorizo, fresh guacamole, a full bar (with uniquely-flavored margaritas packed with fruits and quality tequilas), huge fried ice cream, flan, and sopapillas for desserts, and to top it off, actual homemade rice-based Horchata! Then there are the dishes…huge stuffed burritos, incredible enchilada offerings…AND absolutely THE best Chicken Mole I’ve ever tasted! The owner, Martin, takes pride in his food…and it shows! Add to all that, experiencing incredibly attentive service in a truly festive environment, and you will leave happily full with smiles on your faces!

I used to loveeeeee this place. It was like a nicer Chipotle where u you would build ur own food. Now its a sit down restaurant…. they basically took away the uniqueness and made a average Mexican restaurant. On top of that our waiter seemed like he just didn’t want to be here or deal with people and was rude. BRING BACK HOW IT WAS please it was a quick and easy place to get something to eat now its a full service restaurant and its not the vibe. Hopefully they go back to how they were

Me and my gf would come here all the time when it was layed out more like Chipotle and loved how good the food was and how the service was. Now its just an overpriced standard mexican restaurant. Our server cut me off while I was stating what I wanted. I liked coming here and building my own bowl because im a picky eater and it makes me life easier now thats not an option. Not to mention when we got our food it was cold and the tortillas were soggy the steak was also very underseasoned. Deleted my 5 star review and changed it out for a 1 star. will not return unless its

My friends and I always come here for Taco Monday. I used to recommend it to everyone I saw when they were looking for a quick meal on a Monday. But, after they made the changes a couple weeks ago, our quick trips became multiple hour visits where we would wait for over an hour for food.
None of us have understood the reason for this change. Service was always incredibly quick and there never seemed to be enough business for sit down to be necessary. We would get food very quickly and now we wait long times for service for waiters that clearly have not had the proper training to serve. They are very nice but it doesn’t appear that they want to serve.
The food is great and remains to be great, but it is hard to understand why this change was made. I believe my friends and I will not be continuing to have this Monday routine if service remains to be this slow. I hope the kinks are worked out soon and I think many would prefer if it went back to the old way.

I hadn’t been to Federales in awhile so I decided to go here with some friends for the Taco Monday deal and frankly I’m a little disappointed with the changes the restaurant has made. Let me preface this by saying that the last time I was here was before sit down service was provided.
Moving along, it took our waiter quite awhile to get us chips and drinks, which was pretty shocking granted how small and not busy the restaurant was. We were not topped off with refills on drinks or chips at all the entire time. Along with that, our food proceeded to take quite awhile and when it finally came, it wasn’t very good. The soft shell of the tacos was almost completely soaked through and was difficult to pick up. We were there for almost an hour and half and the entire process was painfully slow.
Before this most recent visit, I suggested federales to everyone I knew. I previously enjoyed being able to fully customize my food, from what I could see in the sit down menu custom tacos was not offered. I also used to enjoy sitting down in the booths and be in and out within 30 minutes tops. Now if I want to customize my tacos I have to take it to go or eat it outside which in the winter is not possible. Also just an FYI, skip the dessert cheesecake if you were thinking about it. That itty bitty cheesecake was not worth $9.

Very disappointed costumer here.
I probably went to dinner here once a week during the fall semester at Kent. I raved about how great the food and service was to all my friends and couldn’t get over the free chips and salsa that came with the meal when u decided to eat in the restaurant. I thought it was like a better version of Chipotle.
Well let me just tell you, times have changed. As my last meal in Kent with my buddies, we decided to go to Federales. I walk in to find that it has turned into a sit down place. At first I thought, this is kind of cool. Now I don’t have to go back to the counter to refill my chips, but no, it was not cool. The waiter was clearly not well trained and spoke little to no english. My table of 8 was constantly without chips and was forced to order off a menu as opposed to building our own burrito. In fact, when I asked if I could just build my own burrito, I was laughed at (probably because he didn’t understand english). When I finally ordered, I had asked for a few things to be taken out of my bowl I ordered it all came buried in it. There was no point in trying to get it corrected either. To top things off, it took nearly 45 minutes just to receive the bill.
Safe to say, I will not be returning until things go back to how they used to be.

I love the chimichanga dinner and their birria is also very good. The jalapeño margarita is great! The friendliest and nicest people you’ve ever met work here. I look forward to many more great meals here.

My first time here today and yhe food was fantastic! The manager/owner speaks good English but the other guy did not. I don’t think he understood what kind of nachos I wanted but they made it right for me, so no biggie. The “seafood nachos” come with all kinds of veggies on it btw! (That’s why I went inside. I often find veggies and things on my food that weren’t listed on the menu. And that does seem to be the case here too! If you’re not a fan of salsa or veggies, make sure to be specific upfront! Other than that, the food was fantastic, service was friendly, and the eat-in option was small but not too busy. I believe I saw a full bar there too.

One of the best new restaurants my fiancé and I have ever tried in Kent! Think Chipotle in its heyday, but even better. Portions are large and you can really taste the freshness of their ingredients. Chips and salsa were included in the meal as well. Hope to see this place thrive because we will most definitely be back!
