Tried their coffee and food – nothing really to write home about. Coffee at bluestone lane is much better. So, what makes sam a.m. so popular?

I have had long layovers in Newark/New York for the last couple of years and I ALWAYS have to stop here. The employees and manager are lovely, quick service, good quality/price ratio and it just feels like home away from home! Beware that at busy times/days there might be some wait but to me has been worth it all the times. HIGHLY RECOMMEND trying the avocado toast and the grits!!!

Really cute brunch spot in downtown JC on a quiet street — in summer or early fall you can sit outside, which makes it extra nice. Inside feels a bit older but in a good way, like the place has history and character.

The menu isn’t huge but has plenty to choose from. I got the avocado toast with eggs (fresh and tasty), my boyfriend had the Cuban sandwich (really good, lots of meat, fresh bread), and we shared the French toast with mascarpone for dessert — it looked amazing but tasted just okay, not as special as we hoped.

Coffee selection is great, and the service was lovely — our waitress was super friendly and welcoming.

Price-wise it’s on the average-to-slightly-expensive side (about $100 for two with tips), but we’ll likely come back for the cozy vibe, good food, and great service.

My boyfriend and I ate here on Valentine’s and we loved it! The place has a charming, quaint feel and the food was delicious. I had the avocado toast and he had biscuits and gravy. Both meals came out of the kitchen fast and tasted fantastic. The portions were also perfect, we both finished our plates and were fully satisfied but not uncomfortably stuffed. Our lattes were also excellent. The staff were all warm and welcoming, and the chef was kind and fun to talk to. You could tell he cares about the restaurant, his staff, and making his community feel at home in his kitchen. We are excited to go back again!

What a great place! Start with the easy one the food was wonderful and nice big portions. Staff were efficient, friendly and funny! The owner was a joy to chat to and hilarious. We will be going back here for both the food and the atmosphere.

Cozy brunch spot. Honey badger latte was very good. Solid sandwich and well-seasoned potatoes. The staff was friendly and prompt.

Sam A.M. is an upbeat, homey place for excellent breakfast. I’ve been here three times and each time I’ve had to include the French toast with the berry compote and mascarpone (it must include this!). The wait and line can get long so just be wary – this neighborhood favorite is in high demand. The staff is warm and funny and this is a perfect compliment to the great food. Each time I’ve come here I am always impressed by the specials and their grits dishes in particular. I wouldn’t consider myself a grits person but they do them very well here. The pictures below show the Pastrami sandwich special and the classic French toast!

Please note that if you’re a vegetarian, they’ll serve you non-vegetarian dishes, and instead of apologizing, they’ll offer lame excuses. This is the third time I’ve ordered French, and it smells like ham each time, so I have to discard it!

We were in the area. It was a great choice. We had the “Avocado Toast w Eggs” and “The Classic French Toasts”. Definitely good options and I can recommend. My only suggestion is to ask not to put black pepper on the egg (I am not a big fan).

The coffee was also really good. We had a really good meal. Also, the place is cozy and there are not that many tables. I suggest you make a reservation.
