We heard good things about this restaurant so we checked it out. We walked right in and got a table. Waitress came over was pleasant and took our drink order. We ordered water, a beer and a gin and tonic. The water never made it to our table. After we made our food order it came fairly quickly Wife got the fish and chips and I got the coconut shrimp platter with hush puppies and fries. The. Wife got fries and Cole slaw with hers. The fish was really good. The shrimp was over cooked and under breaded. Our fries were so salty they were not edible. Without getting into specifics the food was just okay. Was not impressed with our waitress. Not very attentive and seemed to have a chip on her shoulder for some reason. Was acting nice but it was a cynical / or not genuine. The seating area is nice as is the bar area. Sorry to say we won’t be back to Salty Papas Shrimp House anytime soon.

First time here. I was impressed at how good the food was. I had the shrimp and grits and it was a plentiful portion. I will definitely return. It was a beautiful night and we opted to eat outdoors. Very nice.

Ready for some seafood? Give Salty Papa a try. Large menu with a good variety of choices.
We ordered the hushpuppies as an appetizer. Super crispy, loved that.
I ordered the shrimp and grits. Lots of flavor, but unfortunately, it’s too hot for me to eat. Had to switch with my hubby. I am a whimp. My hubby ordered the gumbo, so I got to eat the gumbo in the end. Our son ordered the cast iron shrimp with linguine. Boy, was he happy, loaded with large shrimp.
People who love hot stuff will adore the shrimp and grits, tons of flavor & loaded with shrimp.

Although service was a little slow at the start, the rapid response the rest of our meal was good. Come here for the shrimp, full stop. The freshest, juiciest, plumpest shrimp you’re likely to find awaits you here. The menu is as big as the portions, and if you’re a Kentucky Wildcats fan you’ll fit in (follow the decor as you done in). A place for the snowbirds and the locals to enjoy equally.

Smelled horrible when we walked in at lunch time. Smelled as if they had a bad well and it was very strong. Our server was okay. Either couldn’t understand us or couldn’t hear us. He seemed very busy but wasn’t busy at all. Had to ask for refills even with our cups sitting at the end of the table empty. The food was good. We ordered fried pickles for appetizer that was really good. Shrimp entrées were really expensive for being a whole shrimp restaurant. The tartar sauce was horrible. Tasted like an onion sauce more than anything.

I’m sorry. We have tried multiple times over a few years. But we don’t understand the reviews. And there is always a crazy line. The servers are fine and do try. Food though usually falls flat. Dry overcooked shrimp, pasta dishes bland with very little sauces, etc. In some landlocked towns this might be okay for sea food, but we always end up feeling like we made a mistake not choosing somewhere else to eat. Where we have to draw the line is the “so called” key lime pie. One should ask, “why is there strawberry sauce on a key lime pie?” Because it is so fluffed up with whipped cream that it needs it for any flavor sadly. To be in SWFL and to call that a key lime pie is blasphemy.
