As an Asian American man, I have eaten takeout from this restaurant, many times in the past using the TooGoodToGo to buy and pick up discounted meals.
The service was always friendly, as I always saw the same exact servers smiling and acting politely towards me.
Tonight during my dinner from 6:12 to 7:18PM, I came in for the first time to try their fully priced meals.
The staff was attentive to me from the very beginning.
I was given water and delicious crispy appetizers with two types of sauces, a considerable explanation of the menu based on my dietary restrictions, placement of my order and served my meal hot out of the kitchen in a timely manner.
I noticed a Black couple that finished dining yet remained unacknowledged, while the rest of the patrons including myself were being served.
The Black couple eventually resolved the restaurants issues, by approaching a server to follow them back to their table.
The black couple requested a takeout box for leftovers and their check.
When the server was walking back to complete their request, I flagged her and she attended to me immediately.
I calmly and politely called out the server out loud for ignoring the Black couple.
The server made two excuses, exclaiming the restaurant was in a busy state and that “we were only human”. I refuted her claim saying that I observed the rest of the restaurant in front and to the side of me being served.
If the restaurants service volume was truly overwhelming, then the time between the server bringing me water and placing my order would have taken longer.
The Black couple approached and warmly thanked me for standing up in solidarity with them then left the restaurant.
I noticed that none of the three servers came back to check on me for the rest of my meal, after what I I believe I spoke for was unfair treatment.
I stared blankly outside the window for ten minutes, waiting for my designated server to approach me.
Finally one of the two other servers checked in on me to ask if I needed anything.
I requested a box, paid my check with only 10% tip and then left.
I still wonder why my original server stopped serving me.
I also wonder why the same server made excuses, rather than owning up to her or the restaurants behavior.
If she was uncomfortable for after what I said, then she should not be a server.
There are plenty of people who will be ignorant towards her like she was at the black couple, but I am not one of them.
I would respect her at the very least for having the decency and courage to stay level-headed and approach me, to address any of my possible needs which unfortunately she stopped doing.
In a business establishment, especially a restaurant, there is a certain expectation where the customer is never wrong.
That rule was not followed tonight, as the server not only argued back to me once but left with an aside comment claiming “we are all just human”.
Let me ask the server:
If we are all human then what took so long to serve the respectful treatment given towards me, to the black couple?
The server would rather double down on her ignorance, than take the correct course of action on clear intent or possible lapse in judgement.
Baltimore has a high black population. The restaurant cannot make presumptions of a customers based on their appearance, especially in a city where many of patrons that walk in may be black.
If the restaurant has cameras, I highly suggest the owner and staff view the footage and see what went wrong to prevent future mishaps in service.
Also, please lecture the staff that exhibit and enable discriminatory behavior towards customers of certain skin tones.
If the restaurant treats the black inhabitants of this city with upmost respect, then I believe the business will prosper through word of mouth from respective communities.
As for my being, I will not be coming back. Stop making excuses and do better.
BAD FOOD
DID NOT EXPECT
FROM A NEPALESE RESTAURANT…..
IN MOST OF THE STATES IN USA NEPALESE RESTAURANT FRIED RICE ARE REALLY GOOD BUT THIS ONE WAS A DISAPPOINTMENT…
FOR DINE IN … I TRIED THE WAI WAI SADEKO…
WAS NOT IMPRESSED WITH UNCOOKED OR RAW NOODLES MIXED WITH CHOPPED ONIONS AND SOME DRY SPICES …. BUT I THOUGHT TRYING NEPALI SPECIALITY IS ALSO ONE KIND OF EXPERIENCE…
UNFORTUNATELY $9 FOR IT WAS A WASTE…NOT WORTH
TRIED CHICKEN MOMO STEAMED — 12 pcs / $14 … QUANTITY AND TASTE WAS GOOD BUT NOT GREAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER … THE OUTER COVERING HAD THE STRETCHYNESS HARD TEXTURE… NOT SOFT AND TENDER BUT IT WAS EITHER OVER COOKED / OVER MEDIUM…
OK TASTE
TOOK CHICKEN FRIED RICE FOR TO-GO – $18

CHICKEN CHUNKS WERE PLASTIC TOOTH BREAKERS … HARD CHUNKS .. CHOKING HAZARDS … HAD TO TRASH EACH AND EVERY PC OF CHICKEN FROM THE RICE..
HAD TO EAT ONLY RICE FROM THW FRIED RICE BUT IT ALSO HAD NO TASTE …. JUST BOILED ON RED CHILLY POWDER MIXED WATER…
NOT RECOMMENDED… WASTE OF MONEY
During dinner this week, I noticed something very concerning in the kitchen. Some chefs and helpers were drinking alcohol, and the bottles were placed on the same table where customer food was being prepared. Since your restaurant markets itself as serving only halal food, this was very disappointing to see.
As someone who eats only halal food and avoids alcohol, this experience makes me question the authenticity of your halal standards. If the restaurant does not strictly serve halal food, that should be made clear. However, promoting everything as halal while having alcohol in the preparation area is misleading and unacceptable.
I am not trying to harm your business, but I do feel it is important to mention that customers who eat only halal food due to their faith and beliefs expect and deserve honesty and respect. I have always trusted your restaurant, but after this incident, I no longer feel confident dining here unless this issue is addressed.
I ordered a variety of dishes and only the naan bread was decent.
It’s an approximation of Indian food but nothing even close.
Update: If you are looking for a restaurant to have a casual birthday dinner with a big group of friends and eat really delicious food and feel special without breaking your wallet, this is THE PLACE TO GO
We were a group of around 12 people which is quite hard to find a table in any restaurant tbh, but Sakoon was able to accommodate us at the center of the restaurant. Tysm
Onto the food: DEFINITELY GET THE TANDOORI CHICKEN AND BUTTER CHICKEN AND CHANA MASALA. They are my favorite dishes from Sakoon.
Tandoori chicken: Three giant chicken thigh + leg comes out on this hot skillet sizzling from the kitchen. The meat is so tender and juicy and the meat just falls right off the bone. How do you achieve that by grilling the chicken idk but sakoon can. The tomato? sauce that comes with the chicken on the side is AMAZING. I can eat that stuff just by itself lmao.
Butter chicken: I love their butter chicken because the chicken is so tender and the sauce is so creamy and it just feels like home
Chana masala: An excellent dish with chickpeas, tomatoes and red onions? Sooooo good. It’s hot but I cannot stop stuffing myself with it and I am kinda a hater of chickpeas except for Sakoon’s Chana masala.
AND YOU MUST GET GARLIC NAAN. It’s so fresh and hot and there are generous amounts of garlic on the top.
For dessert, I recommend their gulab jamun. There’s some coconut pieces sprinkled on the top and it’s just sooo good. It’s kind of like mini donuts in sugar syrup that kind of crumbles apart and melts in sweetness in your mouth. Soooo lovely. I can eat more than two if I wasn’t so full from the entrees lol
The lady taking the order was so nice too! Sakoon has one of the best service among dine-in restaurants imo.
Using my friend’s scale, Sakoon is worth driving 3 hours for. Thankfully I live right across from Sakoon for now, but in the future , I am more than willing to drive 3 hours for food at Sakoon.
Previous review: I have been going here for weekday lunch buffet which is from 11:30-3 pm Monday to Friday since 3 years ago. The buffet is self-serve and you walk in, tell them you are getting lunch buffet, grab a plate and start loading it with food. The buffet has a decent variety from tandoori chicken, chicken masala, potato fry, chili chicken, chicken biryani, couple curries, and couple vegetable dishes. With student discount it’s around $14-$15 per person which is such a GOOD DEAL. DID I MENTION UNLIMITED CHAI??? Their chai is soooo good that I wish I can bring a large biggest mug I can find and just fill it with their chai and drink from it all day. It’s the right amount of spicy and sweet and just ahhhh soooo good.
I got the butter chicken from a dinner (there is no buffet during dinner, just ordering entrees) and the butter chicken was so delicious! And at first glance it seems like not much cuz it comes in a small pot but I had leftovers and was able to stretch them to two meals. Really good portions. Also make sure to get their garlic naan. It’s a must don’t question it.
