After spending a lazy, sun-filled and fun-filled afternoon at Horseneck Beach in Westport, we decided to treat ourselves to a delicious Portuguese meal at Sagres Restaurant in Fall River.
Four of us arrived at 5 PM on a Sunday evening, and we appreciated being seated immediately without a reservation. The soft Portuguese rolls were aplenty – enough to feed a small army, lol! Our bottled wine and pistachio martini came minutes after being ordered.
Our waitress was engaging, personable, and very helpful with appetizer and entree recommendations. And though the restaurant was already buzzing with guests, our food came out in a very timely manner.
For an appetizer, we started with the house made soft cheese and spicy red pepper sauce. The cheese was creamy and buttery and the red pepper sauce had just the right amount of kick! We were ever-so-thankful for the abundance of rolls which came particularly handy while indulging in the cheese.
For entrees, we ordered the duck, the salmon, the octopus, and the corning hen. Portions were generous and everything was tasty! We were especially impressed with the grilled octopus. Not only was it tender and perfectly charred, but there was A LOT of octopus, unlike other restaurants that provide a minimal serving of octopus supplemented by sides.
Bellies full and hearts fuller, we passed on dessert and settled the bill, which amounted to about $60 per person (for one shared appetizer, 4 entrees, a bottle of wine, and one martini.) For the portions and quality of the food, we thought that the prices were very reasonable.
While we have plenty of good food in the Somerville/Boston area, we are always pleasantly surprised with the Portuguese food in Fall River. We highly recommend Sagres, and we can’t wait to visit there again!

This is an authentic Portuguese restaurant. My wife has celiac and they were very knowledgeable and attentive to the disease. Menu items are not marked however all ingredients are listed so you can make a logical decision before confirming with your server. Our waiter was Russell who was superb! He explained the dishes and also communicated to the chef about the table requiring gluten free foods. We order the Salmao Grelhado, grilled salmon with rice boiled potatoes and steamed broccoli. Bacalhau Assado baccalà , broiled , with onions, peppers, boiled potatoes. They boil the potatoes then sauté which gives them a crispy outside. Everything was fresh and delicious!

I dined with friends at your establishment yesterday and requested a side of chicken breast to take home for my dog. When presented with the bill, I was shocked to see it was $27. I questioned the price, given it exceeded the cost of a grilled chicken meal, and was told the chef set the price and that I was receiving two chicken breasts. However, upon inspection, the portions were less than one chicken breast in thickness.
I feel taken advantage of & if the request couldn’t easily be accommodated, it would have been better to communicate this rather than charging an unreasonable price. I regret paying and should have left the chicken breast behind.

Sagres was the perfect venue for our father’s 90th birthday celebration. We were in one of the two upstairs function rooms, which was beautifully decorated. Everything was seamless — from the planning and coordination to the food, drinks, service, and attention to detail. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure the entire event ran smoothly. We are beyond happy that we chose Sagres for this special occasion!

It was our first time going to Sagres Restaurant, atmosphere was very nice. We sat at the bar, great service. The food and cocktails were delicious. Parking on weekend is tight, but you’ll find one. We will definitely be going back.

Ordered 3 Mariscadas and once I got home I realized that something was missing so I looked at the menu the so called chef didn’t put any shrimp but dumped a bunch of calamari, two scallops and two little necks and half lobster. I called and got the run around. Rude Rude Rude

Nice atmosphere. Good food . We had shrimp Mozambique for an appetizer. Really good flavor . And the octopus was cooked just right. We will be back to try on things on the menu!
