If you are the type of person who believes coffee tastes inherently better when served in a proper ceramic mug rather than a paper cup, The Round Bird Cafe is already winning. There is something deeply satisfying about a shop that prioritizes the “sit-down” experience over the disposable culture. Any coffee shop that offers a real mug is doing coffee right in my book.
I am a creature of habit—specifically a skinny flat white with an extra shot—and the baristas here are consistently spot on. The pull is rich and the execution is flawless. Beyond the caffeine, the atmosphere is lovely and cozy, striking a trendy balance with interesting yet subtle decor. During my visit, their Valentine’s decorations were super cute, and while the South African influences are more of a whisper than a shout, the small accents throughout the shop are a lovely touch.
The vibe here feels more like a “keep your head down” kind of place rather than a spot to bring a loud group of friends for a chat. It was the perfect environment to read my book and simply enjoy the morning. While I might occasionally prefer a cafe with a little more life and energy, this is the ultimate destination if you are looking for a quiet, cozy spot with great staff and a fantastic assortment of food
The staff was warm, patient, and welcoming.
They answered our questions with a smile and brought our food and coffee quickly. The atmosphere offers a rustic vibe with a choice of tables and chairs inside and outside or a couch/arm chair coffee table vibe.
The coffee came out hot and tasted clean and fresh.
The cheddar cheese and everything bagels with cream cheese were delicious .
As we sat there enjoying our breakfast a steady stream of guests came in which indicates to me that this is a great place to begin your day.
I’d highly recommend this lovely Cafe.
I had the regular coffee with almond milk and was charged extra for the few splashes of almond milk, which should not be a thing. I also got a “vegan” muffin, but I have my doubts that it was actually vegan after tasting it. The barista kept mentioning “gluten-free” and when I specified I am fine with gluten, but I’m vegan – she cut me off to say all of their gluten-free muffins are also vegan.
The last time I was there, I got served a non-vegan whoopie pie when I asked for vegan so my confidence is completely lost. I’m actually allergic to dairy and took the chance this time, but I won’t trust them the next time.
My husband got the pretzel bites, which took a long time because they were frozen and was charged $1.60 extra for mustard that the barista offered, but did not make us aware of the additional charge. He did love his refresher and the last time, he loved the meat pie he ordered as well – he just wished it was bigger.
The environment is super cute and pleasant! I want to give higher stars, but I feel like the upcharge for a few splashes of milk and a mustard condiment, the cooked from frozen foods, as well as the staff not being more careful or reassuring about labels/allergens prevents me from doing so.
The only thing going for this place is the interior, which is genuinely very nice. Unfortunately, the baristas seem to have no idea what they’re doing, and the quality of the drinks shows it. I wish the experience matched the aesthetic, but it just doesn’t.
