Not a good experience. Asked for Wild caught salmon. Took it home and found it to be farmed salmon. Stored smelled like cigar smoke…yuck. Fluorescent ceiling lights are 50% burned out in ceiling. Not much fresh product in fresh fish case. We won’t be back…

The owners can come off at times as impatient or rude over the phone if you inquire if they have such and such; each time they clunked the phone on the desk and responded minutes later. They have an average selection of fish and crustaceans, but you’re gonna have a nice selection of frozen, packaged meat in their freezers. I paid 15 dollars for one pound of frozen crawfish meat. Inside of the store is cozy and actually quite nice. Owners are warm and opposite of what you hear over the phone.

I hate salmon however a friend of mine talked me into trying Rohrs. I am truly glad I did. This is the only salmon I will eat. It’s very mild, the texture is perfect and it is very consistent. I have become a regular customer. The store is VERY clean and the owners are very nice and very helpful. BTW try the clam chowder….out of this world.

Originally from Southeast Michigan. Always bought my seafood from Rohr’s. 2 years ago moved to the NC coast to Calabash. Come back once a year to visit family. Bought 5 pounds of Lake Erie perch back in July. Had a fish fry this weekend for our neighbors down here. People couldn’t believe how good the fish was. Thanks to Tom for always providing a quality product. Will be back next summer.

My wife and I have been customers of Rohr Fish, Inc. for at least ten years and have found their fish, shrimp and crab, etc. to be of excellent quality. The service provided has always been top shelf. The owner is very helpful with recipe suggestions that enhance the flavor of the dish without crowding out the taste of this fish. And BTW the Clam Chowder is very tasty and not always available as it goes very fast.

The owner was terribly rude over the phone. I asked him how fresh his fish was. He said “How am I supposed to know? I go by how it smells and how it looks.” For the owner of a store that specializes in seafood, he sure didn’t know much about his product.

First I would like to start with the good. In the last two months I have made four purchases from Rohr. The first was two swordfish fillet, jumbo boiled shrimp and a cold shrimp dip. Everything that purchased was great as I expected it would be. Purchase #2 was more jumbo boiled shrimp and more shrimp dip. The boiled were great but when I took the lid off the shrimp dip the same night of purchase it was very obvious it was rotten. The two garnish shrimp on top were slimy and mushy and the smell was horrendous. I threw it away and and the following day called the owner to make him aware of it. He apologized and said he would make it right on my next visit. On my third visit I made him aware that I had been the one that called with the bad shrimp dip he was apologetic, I expressed that I understood that things happen. I really thought it must have been a fluke. I bought two grouper fillet and more boiled shrimp and it was all great. Last night 1-15-2019 was my fourth and last purchase at Rohr. I bought a pound of boiled shrimp. Today , less than twenty four hrs later my wife opened the shrimp and ate five or six. I went to join her and out of habit smelled them and they were putrid ! I immediately drove 30 minutes to Rohr. I went in and I asked the owner to smell them , he did then looked at me and said “yes they are definitely BAD. I responded yes they certainly are and reminded him I was the one with the bad shrimp dip not a month before! I expressed my disappointment and frustration as they are supposed to be a premier fish market ! I also informed him my wife had ate five or six and if she got sick he would be hearing from me again ! I will not be purchasing from Rohr again and let me end with saying each time I have purchased I have made sure to take steps to keep my purchase cold for the short ride home. I have always purchased directly from the owner himself. He has always been kind, he was very apologetic again tonight . He refunded my money but that is not the point, he handles this stuff all day long I don’t understand how he could not know it was bad but I’m sure I’m not the only one this has happened to lately!
