We visited Rick’s Barbecue in Waynesboro around 8:30 PM and placed our order at 8:34 PM (verified by the receipt). We waited until approximately 8:50 PM to receive our food, and unfortunately, the meals that included fries were cold. The chicken was fine, so we began eating, but the overall experience was already off to a bad start.
As we ate, an employee was cleaning around us, and I politely asked if we could get fresh fries. She reluctantly agreed, but her facial expression showed clear annoyance. When the fries arrived, they were not only a bigger portion but also hot, which was an improvement. However, by that time, I had already noticed the toast was ice cold as well. I didn’t bother mentioning it, as I didn’t want to cause further tension.
By the time we finished our meal at 9:08 PM (just eight minutes after closing), I went to get a refill. From the time we arrived, the tea, fruit tea, and lemonade had been kept behind the counter, which made it a hassle to get refills. We had been able to get a few, but when we asked for one last refill before leaving, the employee simply said, “We already dumped them out.” This was frustrating because rather than wasting good tea and lemonade, they could have offered it to customers beforehand. My son, who actually knows this employee personally, asked in surprise, “Are you for real?” to which she responded with a cold and dismissive “Yeah” in a hateful tone.
At this point, we asked to speak to a manager. The employee hesitated but eventually brought out Carley from the back. Unfortunately, her response was just as dismissive. She repeatedly said, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry” in a monotone voice without offering any solutions. I left my name and number with her, expecting to hear from upper management regarding our experience, but as of now, I have received no follow-up.
To add to the frustration, we later noticed an upcharge of $1 per meal for substituting mac & cheese instead of fries—something that used to be allowed at no extra cost. We weren’t informed about this charge before ordering, and I only discovered it when reviewing the receipt.
Ironically, as we walked to our car, we ran into a manager from the Lawrenceburg Rick’s location. After explaining our experience, he agreed that it was unacceptable and apologized on behalf of the company. He also provided us with the district manager’s name and mentioned that if we ever visited the Lawrenceburg location while he was working, he would take care of us.
Overall, this visit was disappointing due to cold food, poor customer service, and a lack of professionalism from the staff. The fact that I left my contact information with the manager and have yet to hear from anyone only reinforces my dissatisfaction. While the interaction with the Lawrenceburg manager was a bright spot, I cannot recommend this particular Rick’s location based on our experience.
Furthermore, I expect better from a company that promotes itself as being Christian owned business. Values such as kindness, hospitality, and integrity should be reflected in every location, yet this experience did not align with those principles.
Meal type: …
I called the store and spoke with the manager . I read her the receipt and , pointing out that it said pork at the top and no meat at the bottom. Her response ” yeah I see why they did it that way” She barely said sorry and said I could drive all the way back over there and get a refund or she would make another sandwich. It was 2 pm. I had not eaten all day. My lunch break was over. And I was a little surprised at the lack of customer service. Come all the way back and take time off work to get what I should have gotten in the first place ? When I got off work at 6pm, I drove back over and got a refund. I cannot believe that I had to go all day with no food and drive there twice and all they did was give me my money back and act like it wss no big deal. Had I been a manager with a mess up this big, I would have at least offered a coupon for a free meal or something, for all the inconvenience. That’s how you keep customers.
