Rene’s Bistro is back open in the heart of downtown Stratford, Ontario! Located at 20 Wellington Street, right across from City Hall and just two blocks from the Avon Theatre, we serve French and Italian-inspired Canadian cuisine with a modern, local twist. First opened in 2008, we paused during the pandemic but proudly reopened in July 2025 at our original location. From fresh PEI mussels to vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options, our menu offers elevated comfort food for everyone. We’re proud to welcome both Stratford locals and visitors to enjoy handcrafted meals made with locally sourced ingredients in a warm, welcoming space.

Had an amazing dinner here with my husband last week. Started with cocktails and Petatou De Chevre, which was absolutely stunning. Then we had some lovely and affordable wines to pair with our entrees. I had the Portuguese Mussels, and my husband had the Mushroom Wellington. Both dishes were incredible! We felt such a warm welcome, enjoyed the atmosphere, and enjoyed amazing service from Mindy. Thank you to the whole team for a lovely evening.

Bistro is where you need to go. The price point , quality and portion size of the varied offerings is very reasonable. Our group of 8 were celebrating two birthdays and an anniversary. Rave reviews were made for the lamb shank, seafood mac and cheese, chicken parm (best marinara sauce he’s eaten), and salmon. The Thai mussels were uniquely composed but a tad salty. ⁶Our servers were so attentive and friendly. We finished our delightful meal with the best chocolate flourless cake I’ve ever eaten. This has become our #1 go to place to take family and friends.! Stratford is so lucky to have such a high caliber restaurant!

This was our first opportunity to dine at Rene’s Bistro, and this is definitely a place we will visit again. The atmosphere was welcoming, and we were greeted with a smile as we came in. Cocktails to start featured a local gin from Junction 56, here in Stratford. Bruschetta was our app of choice, and with a whipped goat cheese spread as the base, it was absolute perfection. The mains were a Wagyu bolognese that was seasoned just right, and she had a salmon dish with a dill sauce that was still on the mind hours later. Sticky pudding dessert, and a “Bistro” coffee to top it all off. Do yourself a favour, make a reservation (you’ll need it) and go enjoy a meal and a beverage. Large portions, more than reasonable pricing, and friendly, knowledgeable staff. Thank you for a spectacular evening!

Rene’s Bistro is fantastic. We had the most wonderful meal here… every dish was brilliant and absolutely delicious. We didn’t leave a crumb. The service is also excellent and super accommodating. We will be back again and again! What a delight for Stratford to have this restaurant back.

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Rene’s! Staff were friendly and efficient, made great suggestions for our meal and checked to see if we were attending a theatre performance. Lamb shank and chicken supreme special were delicious. Atmosphere was cozy, but not cramped, allowing for conversation and giggles. Definitely on the go back to list. Thank you for adding a great meal to our evening out!

Loved to see that Rene’s Bistro was back
In its original location. What a gem!! From the moment we walked in the door, what a warm welcome. Our server was also very welcoming and fully knowledgeable on the menu items (as one of our party had an allergy issue).
The wine and food were amazing! The care and detail of chef and staff was apparent.

My wife and I had a spectacular time at René’s! We enjoyed the Seafood Mac and Cheese and the Mushroom Wellington. The server was also lovely–attentive and helpful without being intrusive. We will be back for sure!
