I gave “atmosphere” a three because it’s pretty bland. I don’t know what else I want from Red Lobster, but there’s definitely no character. I miss the wooden ship vibes of yore. How about a pirate, corporate? Live a little!
A couple of Saturdays ago, my date and I decided to visit the Red Lobster on Martin Way in Olympia—a location that’s been part of the community for many years. I hadn’t stepped inside this particular Red Lobster in quite some time, especially with the chain falling out of favor in recent years. But it looks like they’re making a comeback, and this visit proved it.
From beginning to end, our experience was excellent.
The hosts, servers, and staff were attentive, welcoming, and genuinely hospitable. The moment we walked in, we felt taken care of. No reservations are needed at this location, and although there was a little traffic inside, it wasn’t overly busy. We were seated quickly, and the service continued smoothly throughout our meal.
The Food
I ordered the Crunch-Fried Flounder Sandwich with coleslaw, fries, and hushpuppies. Everything was seasoned well, fresh, and full of flavor. And as a self-proclaimed crunch fanatic, that flounder hit the mark—it had the perfect crisp.
I also enjoyed a classic Caesar salad, which was fresh and well-balanced.
My date ordered the Shrimp Linguine Alfredo. She served in the Navy and did a tour in Italy, so she knows her pasta. She was somewhat pleased with it—good, though not quite at the level of authentic Italian cuisine, of course.
And yes—the Cheddar Bay Biscuits are back!
These classics disappeared for a bit, but Red Lobster made the right move bringing them back. Soft, flavorful, and still addictive.
Atmosphere
The only downside is the atmosphere. It’s a bit dark and definitely could use some upgrades. The décor feels dated, and brighter lighting or refreshed interiors would go a long way in elevating the dining experience. However, the kindness and attentiveness of the staff more than made up for it.
A special shout-out to our host, Sabrina, who was incredibly helpful and set the tone for the evening. Every staff member we encountered contributed to a positive, enjoyable visit.
Final Thoughts
Red Lobster in Lacey appears to be on the upswing. With excellent service, flavorful food, and attentive staff, I can see business increasing as they continue to rebuild their reputation. A few updates to the atmosphere would make this location even better, but overall, our visit was truly enjoyable.
Highly recommended for a relaxed, satisfying seafood meal.
*my personal experience
I told the suddenly appeared hostess I was parched. She said she would order a pina colada. I laughed. What I really wanted was water. I don’t know how this is helpful for dehydration-but Instead I got the pina colada and rolls. I had to ask for water twice.
My friend ordered almost every fish available deep fried. It looked slightly overdone to me. She is from Boston, so she knows her seafood. It was passable.
I ordered shrimp with lobster and pasta and a salad. The pasta was yummy.
Salad was greens (some wilted)only. The lemon vinagrette was delightful.
I sent the pina colada back because I can only handle so much sugar in one meal.
The bacon wrapped scallops came on the same plate as the salad. They were yummy.
We ordered the Wave chocolate cake that comes with ice cream. Yum! I recommend the cake.
The rolls were wonderful.
Service was pleasant. The waiter was understanding when I sent the Pina Colada back. I appreciate that and added a star.
Atmosphere was weird. I should have gotten a picture of the empty lobster tank. I recommend draining the tank and putting something colorful and fun in there. Maybe something that changes with the seasons.
If you decide to come here, come closer to 5 pm. That is when staff started to arrive and everything picked up pace.
