Food was pretty good. Our waitress didn’t come around much but other staff handled all of our needs such as refills. Got the halibut (just ok not worth the $40 imo) steak was really good though. Cheese curds also weren’t bad. Clam chowder was very good, as was the Mac and cheese

A little far from us but a really good meal!

We live about 45 minutes from Star so getting to Rare Steakhouse was a bit of a drive but it was so yummy!

The funny thing is, we were actually on the other end of the street for dessert and decided we needed something savory for dinner (not just ice cream). So, we wandered on over to Rare Steakhouse.

The atmosphere is somehow both very laid back and Idaho-upscale. If you know, you know. The staff was incredibly friendly and we were tucked into a corner where we could watch the Boise State game on TV.

No major appetizers on this trip but I did ask for my clam chowder to come out first. And ya’ll…this is the best clam chowder I’ve had in the area. I honestly was not expecting to like it as much as I did. Highly recommend! My husband and I shared the prime rib and it was also very tasty—and a good cut, too! Easily enough for both of us with a few yummy potato sides.

The only reason for knocking it down a star…
The water was kind of weird. Our waitress assured us it was triple-filtered but it had an off-putting taste to me. If we’re ever in the area again, I’d honestly probably bring a water bottle.

Nonetheless, the food was the star and that’s the most important thing.

I’ve had lunches here before, sometimes with a group. Small kitchen so it can take a while to get food (comes out in waves) or drink refills. Dinner experiences don’t match the prices, steaks are better at so many other places in the valley and service pretty informal. Breakfast is the best bet and glad they are competing with the Star Café as the only other sit down am restaurant in town. Meatcentric (five slices of bacon?) and lots of eggs (five egg omelet) so prices can be high. If you want a bargain try the special “Pick Three” noted on the table stands. Otherwise looking at $16 to $20 plus for entrees. Eggs Benedict and coffee $18 and $3.95. Thin slices of moist, delicious ham, toasted muffin, good hollandaise sauce, eggs runny in the center. Home potatoes, the potatoes were good, small slivers of onions and green peppers overpowered the side dish. I’ll get hash browns next time.
Would order the Benedict again. Room is very dark for breakfast. Server was brand new, so rating that lower than average, but friendly and I am sure will be more knowledgeable about the menu, coming back to the table, coffee refills with some time.

It was our first visit to Rare Steakhouse. Filet was amazing and service was very welcoming. Bar Tender made me the best Raspberry Martini ever. Most definitely go back again.

We had to try out the new steak house we had heard about online, and I am glad we did. Great service and delicious food! We had the sesame Ahi, (yum!) The 10 oz steak with loaded baked potato, and finger steaks. The food came quickly and was cooked to perfection, and visibly appealing. The cost was affordable for the food you get, and I loved the sesame Ahi , it was bursting with flavor. We enjoyed the old feel of western mixed with new that the decor offered. This restaurant is clean and the employees are friendly and attentive! We will definitely recommend it to our friends.

Here for lunch on a Tuesday. Waited on quickly. Somewhat busy. There’s no windows in the dining area. It’s a little claustrophobic. There were some nice lights. The chair seats were a little hard and could use a little padding. We both ordered three-piece breaded cod with single side($18 each), Coleslaw for me and fries for him. They brought us coffee ($4 each) which was hot and good. After about half an hour food was brought to the table, warm but not hot. I could see the fish was overcooked but we were starving. The breading was burnt and chewy, the fish meat was tough as a result. I ate some of the breading, but it made me feel sick, so I just ate the fish meat and none of the breading. I flagged down the waitress and told her that Fish was overcooked. She offered to take it back to the kitchen and have it redone but I told her I did not have time to wait. No refund was offered. She said she would “tell the cook“. Now I feel if she was a good server she would never have brought these two dinners to the table. She should have refused them and told to cook to redo these fish before she brought it to the table. Obviously these fish were frozen and had to be cooked along time. The coleslaw was excellent. The fries were OK. Like steak fries but not thick. Limp and soggy. We only ate about a third. We had to ask for coffee refill. Really disappointed, because this is our first time here since they changed hands. I would give this meal a D overall. For $53 including tip I was expecting something a lot better then 6 burnt frozen fish sticks that were barely edible. We only eat out a couple times a month because of the prices, and we expect better food. Shame on you, terrible !! My husband says he’s not coming back. I hate to give a review like this about a local restaurant. I wanted to like this place, but yeah, $53. Save your money.

My husband and I were thoroughly impressed by the quality of their brunch. The crepes were absolutely outstanding, and the portion sizes were more than generous. The staff was fantastic, making us feel genuinely welcomed and valued throughout our visit.

The food was very flavorful. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the mac n cheese was great! And the meat and cheese board was delicious. The only downside was that they didn’t have the finger steaks available. One of the drinks was too sweet, and the loaded baked potato was a little cold. However, I even added the bad parts this place was very good and I’d definitely recommend it!!

Steak fingers were a real treat! Mine came with a side of blue cheese coleslaw which was fresh and delicious. My friends sweet potato fries looked amazing also. The only downside was a pretty chilly breeze coming in the front door.

This is a rustic old time decorative place to get some pretty good grub. They have pretty good steaks here with all the fixin’s as well. The waitresses did an outstanding service and were very pleasant and helpful. I understand they went through to a new ownership a while back so I can’t speak for what it was like before. So come on down and support a local business where they care about their customers. Have a EDIT. The Rustic Table had changed their name to the Rare Steakhouse. There at the address of 9840 w state st Star Idaho
