Small quaint restaurant with lovely decor and quiet, so easy to have conversations. Our server was amazing. Overall it was only ok but I would give it another chance and try other dishes.

Food: My kids didn’t like the meatballs. I tried them a they’re pretty spicy and I like heat. The Alfredo sauce has small pieces of garlic… but it was still good. The chicken sauté was very oily. I don’t eat hardly any of the pasta… just picked out the chicken and veggies which were good. The bread was amazing.

Customer service was great

The food is not authentic.

Came from a freezer

The garlic bread came from the freezer bag too

Definitely needs to be more authentic. They have a good wine selection.

The Purple Garlic Italian Cafe is a little hidden treasure. It’s nestled in the Hollywood Park area of San Antonio. This place has become our favorite, go-to place when we are craving Italian food. We loved each dish that we tried, including dessert of course. They have a traditional Italian menu and a good selection to choose from. The environment is casual, the service is friendly and attentive. Even with a steady stream of patrons, it is not too noisy like some restaurants. Their tiramisu and cheesecake were exceptional. The pasta was tender but not mushy, the marinara sauce was zesty, the meatballs were spicy and packed with flavor and the Alfredo sauce was creamy and well-balanced. I’ve never been a fan of pesto but the pesto that was served with our mozzarella appetizer was delightful. I will be working my way through their menu and I will keep y’all posted on the new dishes I look forward to trying on our next visit.

Ordered chicken marsala and calzone with sausage and mushrooms. Chicken was tender, juicy but a bit bland. Mushrooms were tasty and pasta was cooked just right. Calzone was good with spicy sausage and flavorful mushrooms.

With all the great reviews on Google I was excited to finally try this place out. Arrived around 4:30 so there weren’t a lot of people. We were told there would be a 15 minute wait due to only having 2 waiters and more were expected soon. Ambiance was very nice with outside tables/chairs so we didn’t mind. Once seated we were excited to get started. We ended up going with the most common dishes… Spaghetti & Meatballs, Eggplant Parmesan and Italian chef salad. Surprisingly there is no complementary bread and the only way to get bread is with your main course. At this point I’m not disappointed cause bread always fills you up anyways before your meal right?! Finally, our meal is here and my husbands first bite is stone cold. We were not asked to take it back and make it right which was disappointing. Overall, we loved the homemade fresh hot bread and delicious salad. My meal wasn’t bad but in my opinion it was only ok. Service was ok. I wish I could have been part of the 5 star fan club.

(Updated 9 Feb 25) Had another great experience here for dinner Friday night with my wife. Got here early (before 5:30) because it’s a popular place on the weekend and there was a non-stop stream of folks coming in after our arrival. Good call, us! The appetizer and main dishes were great, and once again the service was very friendly from the moment we walked in the door. Terrific job by the entire staff, front-to-back. We’ll be back and keep recommending!

(Original post) We had an absolutely outstanding experience here on a busy Saturday night this past weekend with a party of 6. We had been here once during the Pandemic soon after they opened and it was a bit of a mixed experience at that time for many reasons. This was a completely different experience.

We got there just a bit after 5 and it was already very busy. Amazingly, we were able to get seated in their newer back room, which was really a great setting with the arbor overhead and quieter. We had a fantastic server, our food was superb across the board, and frankly the cost isn’t much different than going to Olive Garden these days–but 10x better and much fresher. Great job by management and the whole team. We look forward to our next visit!

I’m not quite sure who’s writing these reviews, but this place was far from authentic Italian and terrible. Just because you throw a ton of basil and parmesean on your food doesn’t mean you’ve seasoned it. My friends and I formed the Finer Things Club some years back and pick a new restaurant every month. My friend ordered the chicken Marsala, or like we said Chicken hold the marsala. The chicken was bland and I understand a good chef should cook off the marsala but the flavor of the sauce gave no indication that any was even added. I already know what the manager or owner will say. “Why didn’t you say anything” We did. That fell on deaf ears. The manager or ehoever she was said she would let the chef know. I certainly hope she made them theow that entire batch out. I doubt it. My friend’s husband and I ordered the eggplant. Dry hockey pucks. Definitely overcooked. Surprisingly my friend’s husband said his was ok. My husband ordered the chicken. parmesean and ate it but said he wished it had more flavor. The chicken was bland. Our server was delightful and the only good thing about this place. She had at least 4 or 5 tables but was so attentive. This was a waste of money and quite the disappointment. We went on Friday, November 7th and I’ve been hesitating writing this, but if I can save someone some money, that’s fine. 2 people, 2 unsweetened teas and $67 later.
