Reviews
The restaurant is pretty small and simple. The decor is a bit quirky but we were greeted with genuine warmth as soon as we entered and fortunately it was not crowded yet on. Sat evening.
On to the food. Simply put, it’s the best Punjabi food I’ve had that I can remember. The Chole Bhatura was brilliant. The bhature was flavored and soft, lightly spiced and sprinkled with methi. I’d never had this style before and thoroughly enjoyed it. The chole was perfect and the raita was just right. The amritsari kulcha was massive and really hit the spot. The Sarson and makki roti had an authentic homemade taste and had plenty of makkan! We also tried the samosa and while we were stuffed we did have one and it too was amazing.
Everything was clearly freshly made and Rahul stopped by several times to check and made sure we were enjoying the food. He clearly took pride in the food and he genuinely made us feel like we were visiting his home. He made us a wonderful chai and even gave us a complimentary Kheer dessert which was also very very good.
I’m looking forward to returning for breakfast and to try more dishes. Can’t wait actually!
We highly recommend this place.
All the food is traditionally punjabi in taste and appearance. Lassi and tea were too good. 1 huge mooli paratha with butter. Excellent chhola bhatura – the blackened chhole like I like. The poori was good – potentially the poori sabzi would be a good dish.
Kheer was excellent.
We took home sarso ka saag and makke di roti. Both items were excellent.
Dying to go back again.
I found this spot during an early morning Turnpike drive and felt instantly glad I stopped.
Location: If you drive on NJ Turnpike South you can park at the service area and walk three minutes. Call ahead and they will even pick you up or bring your food to the car. Simple and friendly.
Dough: They make five separate doughs for naan roti puri bhatura and tawa roti. The food tastes clean fresh and real because of that.
Freshness: They cook for the day only. When something finishes it finishes. Next morning starts fresh. You feel that in every bite.
Kulcha and Bhatura: The Amritsari kulcha hits with real Punjab flavor Pindi chole tamarind soaked onions and house made butter. The bhatura tastes light crisp and fragrant with airy jali from proper fermentation. Both dishes feel honest and comforting.
Desserts: The desserts are a must try especially Mawa paan with rich khoya, coconut flakes, Fennel seed water, cardamom and a crunchy Petha layer. Pair it with hot gur chai and your morning feels perfect.
Overall: Warm family, real cooking and food that tastes like home.
They offer a truly unique menu, not just the usual fare, but also traditional Indian mithai (sweets) and, crucially, a North Indian style breakfast. This breakfast option is an absolute game-changer for the area.
The owner is incredibly friendly and welcoming, instantly making you feel at home. While the décor is simple, it evokes a lovely, nostalgic reminder of India. This is definitely my new go-to spot for genuine, heartwarming food. Highly recommended!
Had a blast
Love those great tasting pan/sweets. Chats were very good. Goat curry was flavorful and great accompaniment with the bread basket.
Next, will try their breakfast offers.
The restaurant was like a Punjabi dhaba and their Chhole Bhathure, Amritsari Kulcha chhole, Makke Di Roti and Sarson ka saag were like I have never had before – never knew this is how the authentic taste and our punjabi friends validated that! Food was fresh, no preservative after-taste
The host Rahul was extremely warm and friendly and his hospitality was exemplary! We walked out with both our hearts and stomach full!! We are going to take every visitor there for sure.
Highly recommend!
