Went twice; both times were impressive for the gorgeous views, exceptional service, and delicious food. The second time the super-friendly chef came out and talked with me (twice!) to cater to dietary restrictions and make sure everything was good. A hidden gem, though there is a service charge, presumably because if you aren’t members.

Restaurant took our dinner reservation without mentioning they were serving a limited buffet that night, which was disappointing to say the least. Then we were hit with a $60 service charge because the restaurant wants to provide better healthcare for their employees — I support this but if you are going to do this, increase your menu prices — do not add this as a large hidden fee that we discover at the end of the meal. We will not be going back.

Shrimp dish was delicious and best view in the New River Valley.

Poor Service. Rude wait staff. Advertised for game night watch and wanted to close us out at half time. Closed kitchen and was not serving food but continued to serve alcohol. Begrudgingly stayed with no service through 3rd quarter of the game (after contacting manager) but turned TV’s off with 8 minutes to go in game.

I have always loved this location, ever since the previous restaurant was there. There is a fair amount of outdoor seating with umbrellas for shade that overlook the golf course and river. I have been a few times since Preston’s moved in and enjoyed it every time. The wings are a great appetizer and the ranch dressing is probably the best I’ve had anywhere. I’ve also had a couple of their sandwiches, burgers (which seem to have been removed from the lunch menu), and cob salad and have been satisfied with all of them. Service is friendly and fast. The price is good for the quality and quantity of food you receive. I definitely recommend giving them a try.

Poor service and a rude staff. Advertised a “watch party “ for the VT vs Miami football game; they stopped serving food at halftime of the game and wanted us to settle our tab and leave. They then proceeded to turn the game off with 8 minutes remaining in the contest.

The wait staff was horrible! Terrible service! Closed the grill but continued to serve alcohol!! Advertised for game day and tailgate menu then requested that we leave at half time! Unbelievable!! They actually called the police and had them waiting in the parking lot for us to leave!.

I don’t like to give negative reviews, so I will just think maybe we went on an off night. The menu was very limited, so I only had a salad. I went in hungry and left hungry. Chances of us going back are zero to none.

Just leaving 4 stars so I can let others know Fridays the kitchen actually closes at 9, not 10. Maybe the hours should be different for the bar? We went at 9:10 and the bar staff were very friendly and offered to ask the kitchen staff if they could serve us, but we didn’t want to inconvenience them. Mistakes happen. We’ve heard great things and hope to try the restaurant another time.

Preston’s at the River is always a great place for a night out. Especially if you’re looking for something reliably delicious. The staff are always very polite and welcoming. Oh, and you can’t beat the magnificent view of America’s oldest river either!
